As a Telecommunications Installer DC (Level IV), you will lead installation projects, perform advanced technical work, and guide installation teams in environments where safety and service continuity are essential.
This field-based role requires travel to customer sites, including overnight stays within an assigned region. Periodic travel outside the region may also be required.
JOB SUMMARY
The Telecommunications Installer DC (Level IV) leads the installation and modification of DC power systems, including circuit additions and removals, power transitions, equipment testing, and troubleshooting on active systems.
This role serves as Site Supervisor for assigned projects, directing personnel and overseeing critical work to protect employees, maintain network reliability, and meet customer requirements. Project assignments reflect demonstrated qualifications, with increasing scope as advanced competencies are verified. This position reports to the assigned Regional Service Leader.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Telecommunications Installer DC (Level IV), you will:
- Independently lead assigned installation projects, coordinating personnel, materials, schedules, and customer requirements.
- Serve as Site Supervisor, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely completion of work and maintaining project documentation.
- Prepare transition and detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs), conduct dry runs, and confirm that personnel understand their assigned tasks.
- Identify hazards, establish applicable Short Duration Safety Plans, and lead jobsite safety huddles.
- Install BDFBs, distribution panels, and battery additions, and lead power plant and controller upgrades within demonstrated qualifications.
- Modify, add, or remove circuits on active DC power distribution systems according to approved procedures.
- Perform power transitions, equipment testing, and turn-up while maintaining power to customer equipment.
- Identify and verify specific circuits within congested cable racks using digital voltmeters and other appropriate test equipment.
- Install and H-tap cables for approved transition work within demonstrated qualifications.
- Diagnose equipment issues, determine corrective actions, and use technical support resources, including RTAC, as needed.
- Direct and monitor installation crews, develop team members’ skills, and communicate project status and issues to customers and management.
- Follow and enforce Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), personal protective equipment (PPE), network safety, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints and erect structural steel supports using appropriate blocking and hoisting techniques.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/GED.
- At least six years of experience installing DC power equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead installation projects and direct installation personnel.
- Ability to prepare transition MOPs and conduct procedural reviews and dry runs.
- Experience with active DC power systems, circuit verification, power transitions, equipment testing, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with industry tools, specialized installation equipment, and electronic test equipment.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, floor plans, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites, including overnight stays and periodic travel outside the assigned region.
- Ability and willingness to work varying shifts, including swing shifts.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift at least 40 lbs.
- Ability to operate motorized lift equipment, following required training and authorization, to maneuver, install, or remove 80–750 lb. batteries.
- Frequently push or pull cables requiring up to 60 lbs. of force.
- Frequently climb ladders up to 8 ft. and work or stand on ladders for extended periods.
- Stand continuously during assigned work.
- Frequently reach above, below, or at shoulder level.
- Frequently bend, twist, stoop, crouch, or squat.
- Work in varying environments with moderate noise levels and variations in heat and cold.
- Wear required PPE appropriate to assigned tasks and site conditions.
TRAINING AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Deepen your expertise through advanced project work, team leadership, and a structured qualification process. Development includes plant and controller upgrades, complex power transitions, advanced troubleshooting, and leadership of larger installation teams.
Project scope and technical responsibilities expand as you demonstrate and verify additional competencies.
