Job Description

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to support operations at our Alexandria, VA location.


This role is focused on leading traditionally structured, hardware-centric engineering projects that deliver secure, resilient technologies for national security missions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in waterfall project management methodologies or a background in physical hardware production, manufacturing, or construction/engineering management.


Essential Job Responsibilities

• Lead full-lifecycle project execution using traditional project management approaches, including development of detailed project plans, schedules, milestone tracking, risk management, financial oversight, and earned value tracking.
• Translate mission and customer requirements into structured, well-defined system requirements and ensure proper allocation across hardware, integration, manufacturing, and engineering teams.
• Manage coordination between hardware engineering, test, and integration teams to ensure systems are built, verified, and delivered according to established plans and specifications.
• Oversee system integration, verification, and validation activities throughout the design, build, test, deployment, and sustainment phases, ensuring alignment with established processes.
• Provide clear communication, documentation, and reporting to technical teams, leadership, and customers, ensuring transparency of project status, risks, and deliverables.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, program teams, and customers, delivering crisp communication, strong documentation, and transparent status reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
• Experience performance systems engineering activities such as requirements development, integration support, hardware/system verification, or validation.
• Demonstrated background in structured project or program management, including schedule control, coordination of technical activities, financial tracking, and risk mitigation.
• Strong ability to work with multidisciplinary engineering teams and communicate technical information to various stakeholders.
• Must possess and maintain a TS/SCI with CI-Poly clearance.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience in hardware production environments, engineering/construction management, or manufacturing-focused project leadership.
• Familiarity with financial management practices, including Earned Value Management (EVM) or similar cost/schedule performance tracking methods.
• Strong analytical abilities and a structured approach to problem-solving, documentation, and communication.
• Prior experience supporting U.S. Government contracts.

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
