VP of Engineering

Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a growth-stage technology company based in San Francisco, CA, for a VP of Engineering to lead its engineering organization through its next phase of scale. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who can set technical direction, build and mentor multiple engineering teams, and partner directly with executive leadership to translate business strategy into engineering execution. Compensation ranges from $235,000 to $310,000 plus equity, reflecting the seniority and scope of the role. Day to day, you will split time between hands-on technical strategy, org design, and people leadership, moving fluidly between architecture reviews, roadmap planning, and one-on-ones with engineering managers. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, has scaled engineering teams through rapid growth before, and enjoys building the systems, processes, and culture that let a company move fast without breaking things. COMPENSATION

The salary range for this role is $235,000 - $310,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. Additional compensation and benefits details will be shared during the hiring process. Responsibilities Own the technical strategy and engineering roadmap in partnership with the executive team Lead and scale multiple engineering teams spanning backend, frontend, and infrastructure Hire, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior technical talent Drive architectural decisions that support rapid product growth and system reliability Establish engineering processes, metrics, and best practices across the organization Partner closely with Product and Design leadership to align technical execution with business goals Manage engineering budget, headcount planning, and resource allocation Champion a strong engineering culture centered on ownership, quality, and continuous improvement Represent engineering in board and investor updates alongside company leadership Identify and mitigate technical risk while balancing speed to market Requirements 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant time in senior leadership roles Proven track record leading and scaling multiple engineering teams at a growth-stage company Deep technical background with the ability to engage credibly in architecture and design discussions Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering managers and senior ICs Strong track record setting technical strategy that aligns with company goals Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to executives and investors Experience operating in fast-paced, high-growth environments with evolving prioritiesBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience Hands-on experience with modern cloud infrastructure and scalable system design Competitive base salary plus meaningful equity Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance 401k plan with company match Generous paid time off and company holidays Hybrid work schedule with flexibility to work from home part of the week Paid parental leave Professional development and conference budget Commuter benefits for San Francisco-based employees Wellness stipend Collaborative, high-growth company culture
