The role is designed to provide students with immersive, real‑world exposure to diverse medical environments, developing foundational professional skills and a deep understanding of patient‑centered care. Training and Experience Framingham Public Schools seeks candidates who are current high school students with a demonstrated interest in nursing, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or veterinary science. Educational Requirement : Current high school student. Professional Interest : Demonstrated interest in health‑science fields. Skills and Ability Communication & Presentation : Communicate clearly in both oral and written form and present information effectively. Analytical Thinking : Observe clinical procedures and articulate how roles support patient outcomes. Cultural Proficiency : Work with patients and staff of diverse backgrounds in an equitable manner. Confidentiality : Adhere to FERPA and HIPAA standards. Reflective Learning : Participate in journaling, group discussions, and complete a capstone project. Professionalism, Attendance & Adaptability : Maintains regular attendance, remains professional in unpredictable situations, and approaches tasks with a solution‑focused mindset. Organizational Management : Prioritizes and manages multiple projects independently. Technology : Uses Google Workspace and educational technology appropriately. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Participate in daily rotations observing professionals in nursing, medical assisting, dentistry, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine. Shadow front‑desk operations and patient intake to learn coordination of care and sensitive information management. Observe community health workers to understand addressing social determinants of health. Proactively ask questions, take initiative, and participate in scheduled learning activities. Maintain accurate records of hours (50–75 total) and complete all required reflective assignments. Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Program Director. Physical Working Conditions Mobility & Stamina : Able to move across healthcare facilities and stand for extended periods during shadowing. Environmental Exposure : Can work with allergens, medicinal odors, and sterilized equipment. Safety & PPE : Willingness to wear and tolerate required PPE. Sensory Requirements : Requires strong visual and auditory acuity to observe procedures and follow rapid instructions. Physical Strength : Can lift up to 20 lbs and assist in minor equipment positioning. Reports To Framingham High School Vice Principal (or designee) Performance evaluated per the Framingham School Committee Contract. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification Non‑Exempt (Hourly) Terms of Employment Program Duration : April – June. Attendance Requirement : Must attend full 50–75 hour duration. Schedule & Shift Assignments : Flexible rotations between the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center and Silk Veterinary Hospital.
