Job Category: Engineering, Architecture, & Planning Salary Band: $90,000 to $100,000 Compensation: USD 66,330 - USD 99,528 Job Description Civil Service Title- Assistant Engineer (Civil) To be considered for this position candidate must be serving in the title permanently, or must have filed for Exam # 7006 and provide proof. The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City. Serves as a Senior Bridge Inspector in the Bridge Inspection & Management unit of the Bureau of Maintenance, Inspection, and Operations. Under supervision, performs In-depth, routine, special, and emergency inspections using a variety of equipment and tools. The job requires inspecting elevated structures over roadways, railroads, and water, as well as tunnels, in a confined space, using equipment such as a bucket truck, man-lift, ladder, and snooper in all weather conditions. Prepares bridge condition sketches for thorough documentation. Produces bridge inspection reports per the accepted New York State bridge inspection standards under the direction of a team leader. Identifies and prioritizes potential hazards. Prepares structural and safety flags will all necessary plans, drawings, and technical specifications. The position requires an employee to drive an inspection van for fieldwork. May assist the Director of Bridge Inspection in the office with bridge inspection-related work. Maybe required to work evenings, nights, and weekends. ASSISTANT CIVIL ENGINEER - 20210 Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of fulltime satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or 3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
