Overview Your job is more than a job. University Medical Center is seeking experienced nurses for our 11 Acute Care Units. Cardiology/Telemetry: Comprehensive cardiac monitoring. Specializes in the management of patients with arrhythmias, heart failure, myocardial infarction, post-cardiac procedures, and continuous telemetry. Adult medical-surgical patients with cardiac and vascular conditions. Expertise in cardiac vasoactive therapy with safe administration and close monitoring of non-titrating vasoactive cardiac drug therapies in a controlled acute care environment. Controlled Access: The patient population includes those in custody or incarcerated. Includes details on safety and staffing (no patient in cardiac drips; minimum 1 guard per patient 24/7; always accompanied by 1 deputy for patient interactions; on-site supervisory presence). General Care: Admission procedures (blood transfusion and blood product administration; radioactive iodine therapy; symptom management and supportive care; post-operative monitoring and treatment initiation). Admission diagnoses include general medical patients, hematology, pathology, palliative/end-of-life, sickle cell anemia, gynecology, rheumatology, urology, chronic disease, oncology overflow. General Medical: Diverse medical-surgical patients; exposure to medical and post-operative surgical patients; wide range of diagnoses including renal needs, stable cardiac conditions, and complex comorbidities. Management of care includes telemetry monitoring, central line care, bladder scanning, IV management, and wound care. Medicine Isolation: Patients with airborne, droplet, and contact precautions. General Medical-Surgical patients needing IV antibiotics, fluids, or wound care; cardiac arrhythmias requiring telemetry; DVT/PE; sepsis. Neurology Stroke: Cerebral vascular accident, traumatic brain injuries, seizures, craniotomy/craniectomy, spinal surgeries, and general medical/surgical stroke population. Stroke Center of Excellence; comprehensive stroke center (coming soon). Epilepsy monitoring unit; trauma population including TBI, gunshot wounds, and MVCs. Observation: Average length of stay 2-4 days. Cardiac, respiratory, metabolic, and infectious/other conditions. Includes medication management, wound care treatment, dialysis care, central line care, and telemetry monitoring. Oncology: Admission procedures (chemotherapy, blood administration, radioactive iodine therapy). Admission diagnoses include cancer, cancer treatment-related admissions, benign hematology, and surgical oncology. Surgery: General surgery (abdominal procedures, hernia repairs), vascular/reconstruction, colorectal, genitourinary, and skin graft management including flap checks. Trauma: Penetrating and blunt trauma; gunshot wounds, MVCs, falls, sports injuries; fractures, hip/knee replacements; total injuries and procedures; multiple injury types including falls from height. Transitional Recovery Unit: Weight loss surgery (gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch, revisions) and general surgery (hernia repair).
