Senior Technical Writer

About the Role Kizen seeks an experienced Senior Technical Writer with a strong background in InsurTech or insurance operations. The role focuses on creating high‑quality developer and user‑facing documentation for our insurance product suite—including Commissions Copilot, Contracting, and AgentCRM. As an individual contributor, you will work directly with Product Owners, Engineers, and Solution Architects to translate complex technical concepts into clear, usable documentation that improves the customer experience. Key Responsibilities Apply knowledge of insurance distribution workflows to produce accurate, contextually relevant documentation. Collaborate with the Insurance Product Owner and Solutions team to document vertical‑specific features, data models, and integration patterns. Write, edit, and maintain developer‑facing documentation, including API documentation, integration guides, plugin documentation, developer tutorials & walkthroughs, technical workflows & concepts, and release notes. Read, interpret, and validate OpenAPI specifications (.yaml / .json). Partner with engineering teams to document new software features, API endpoints, data models, and error handling. Own documentation quality, clarity, accuracy, and usability. Contribute to documentation architecture, organization, and navigation to support a strong developer experience. Operate within a Docs‑as‑Code environment using Git‑based workflows. Interview subject‑matter experts and independently gather technical details. Manage documentation projects from intake through publication. Continuously improve documentation based on product changes and developer needs. Requirements Insurance Background You should have an understanding of the insurance industry, including familiarity with contracting, commissions management, FMOs/IMOs, carrier relationships, or insurance distribution workflows. Technical Acumen Strong technical abilities are required to understand the complexity of our application and solution framework, with experience using integration iPaaS products and API testing tools. Collaboration Excellent collaboration and mentoring skills are essential, as the team works together to deliver functionality. Communication Clear status reporting and effective communication with a variety of stakeholders is expected, with transparency when progress changes. Required Qualifications At least 5 years of technical writing experience focused on software or technical platforms. Bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Journalism, or Computer Science. Proven experience documenting InsurTech or insurance‑adjacent SaaS products in a regulated industry. Experience writing API and developer documentation for SaaS, platform, or enterprise software products. Strong understanding of the OpenAPI Specification. Ability to read and validate .yaml and .json specification files. Proficiency with Docs‑as‑Code workflows. Hands‑on experience with GitHub/GitLab or Gitbooks. Advanced working knowledge of Markdown. Demonstrated understanding of developer experience (DX) principles. Strong information architecture skills with the ability to structure complex documentation. Experience working within Agile product teams. Excellent SME interviewing and cross‑functional collaboration skills. Strong project management abilities with a track record of delivering documentation on schedule. Portfolio required—applications without work samples will not be considered. Preferred Qualifications Experience documenting HealthTech or FinTech SaaS products in a regulated industry. Familiarity with AI‑driven or ML‑powered SaaS products, including comfort documenting agentic workflows, model outputs, or AI‑assisted process automation. Familiarity with documentation platforms beyond GitBook. UX/UI Writing experience. Background working in high‑growth SaaS environments. Work Location Requirement This role is based in the New York Tri‑State Area and follows a hybrid schedule of four days in the office and one day remote. Candidates must reside in the New York Tri‑State area. We are not hiring for this position outside of this market.
