Our Urgent Care services at BayFront and Parnassus provide high-quality, same-day care for patients with acute, non-life-threatening conditions. You’ll join a collaborative environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, reflecting the vibrant communities we serve.

Overall responsibilities The UCSF Urgent Care Physician will provide direct patient care to patients of all ages in the newly remodeled UCSF acute care clinic on Parnassus, and the newly constructed Bayfront Urgent Care, which opened in August 2024. 36 hours of direct patient care per week is expected in a full-time appointment at one or a combination of the two urgent care sites, and will include some evenings, weekends and holidays.  Although the majority of patient encounters will be in-person, competency with video tele-health encounters is required. All shifts, including weekends, evenings and holidays, will be equitably divided among the Urgent Care clinicians.

\n In addition to providing direct clinical care, the Urgent Care Physician may provide input regarding protocols for efficient patient triage, and clinic flow at both locations.  The Urgent Care Physician will supervise the clinical care of advanced practice providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) and provide consultation when needed.  They will work collegially with clinic nurses and administrative staff at both locations.

\n UCSF may increase the number urgent care clinics on campus, and the UCSF Urgent Care Physician is expected to participate in the implementation of the expanded services.
Specific Responsibilities: \n

• The Urgent Care Clinician will spend most of their time providing acute clinical care to UCSF patients.
\n
• Precept and mentor Advanced Practice Providers who work in the urgent care clinics.
\n
• Actively participate in the implementation of the UCSF Lean Healthcare system.
\n
• Provide bedside teaching for housestaff and medical students when needed.
\n
• Be available to provide cross-coverage for Urgent Care clinical shifts due to illness, conferences, and vacations.
\n
• Review and respond to quality concerns raised by patient relations and risk management.
\n
• Review lab and radiology results generated in the clinic, and partner with nursing and Care Coordinators to provide appropriate follow up.
\n
• Participate in True North and clinic huddle rounds.
\n
• Complete documentation in a timely way in accordance with UCSF policy.
\n
• Complete all required onboarding training within 30 days of start date.
\n
• Compensation fulltime = $300,000

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree and completion of an accredited family medicine (internal medicine/pediatrics, or emergency medicine residency programs considered)
  \n
  • Valid DEA license
  \n
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, (Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine considered)
  \n
  • Valid medical license in the State of California
  \n
\n

  • Demonstrated skill in ambulatory urgent care and provision of care to diverse populations.

  • Proficiency in acute care procedures such as:\n

    • I & D of abscesses
    \n
    • laceration repair
    \n
    • splinting
    \n
    • genitourinary exams
    \n
    • wound care
    \n
    • burn treatment
    \n
    • Point of care ultrasound
    \n
    • Large joint aspiration and injection
    \n

  • A willingness to become proficient in other ambulatory acute care procedures if the clinic scope of service expands.
  \n
  • Skill in following UCSF Infection Control practices including donning and doffing of PPE, specimen handling, and hand washing.
  \n
  • Committed to patient-centric equitable medical care.
