Cellular Biologist I

Job Summary The Cellular Biologist I will work directly with management and an experienced team of cellular biologists, specialists, and Ph.D. level scientists who are experts in cell cultures. The role involves learning new technologies, providing scientific service to the JAX research community, and actively contributing to the research process. Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions Perform and implement cell cultures for different platforms. Maintain cell cultures associated with the laboratory core’s activities. Assist the Lab Manager with assay development, set up cell cultures, and support automation for cell screening. Prepare and manage cell culture for assay development and cell screening services to meet individual project needs. Document results, implement protocols from the literature, identify problems, troubleshoot, and analyze variations observed in regular testing protocols. Modify, refine, or adapt techniques and procedures; adjust quality control measures as needed. Plan and monitor resources required to operate the cell screening component of the laboratory; maintain inventory control and coordinate space, equipment, and facilities; may monitor expenditures. Lead the exchange of research information through demonstration and instruction. Assist in training others within or external to the assigned work area. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related discipline and 0-2 years of directly related experience in a laboratory setting. Cell Culture Skills, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Cell culture skills required, including 2D and 3D cell cultures for the 3D HCS screening platform, High Content Screening, and single cell-omics. Demonstrated ability to develop research protocols. Demonstrated success in coordinating and/or conducting multiple, concurrent assignments or a multi-faceted project. Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional, and positive manner to enhance the outcomes of the research program. Established understanding of good safety practices and a demonstrated history of safe conduct. Self‑motivated with the ability to organize time effectively, manage details, and maintain a pro‑active attitude. Ability to develop technical documents and presentations. Team player with a professional, positive attitude and willingness to be flexible. Must work flexible shifts (evening, weekend, holiday) and maintain regular, reliable, and consistent attendance. Experience with human clinical sample handling is a plus. Experience with laboratory automation is a plus. Pay Range $45,835 - $66,461, pay is determined by years of experience.
