ADL / Orientation & Mobility Instructor

Job Overview Activities of Daily Living / Orientation & Mobility Instructor responsible for assessing and training individuals who are blind or visually impaired across a statewide area. Provide instructional services in travel skills, adaptive equipment, residual vision, low vision aids, ADL skills, and Braille. Significant in‑state travel required; candidate must provide own transportation or a valid driver’s license. Key Responsibilities Interview participants verbally to assess needs. Conduct performance‑based assessments of participant functioning. Research and recommend adaptive equipment and training levels for independence. Provide professional instruction in O&M and/or ADL skills. Monitor participant safety and progress during home, community, or workplace travel. Collaborate with internal agency staff and external providers to support participant goals. Required Qualifications Completion of an undergraduate core program in business administration, education, or social/human science, or equivalent education/experience in delivery of the instructional service defined in the position description. At least 6 months of experience or training in the instructional service. Time‑management, case‑management, and prioritization skills. Understanding of adult and youth learning styles. Experience working with individuals of varying backgrounds and cultures. Ability to analyze and assess participant skills, training needs, and limitations. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in computer applications to produce clear reports. Team collaboration ability. Training & Certification Requirements (after hire) For ADL focus: Earn one of the following credentials within 12 months: Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) from ACVREP, Occupational therapist with post‑graduate certification in low vision, or Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) licensed by the Ohio Department of Education. For Orientation & Mobility focus: Earn Certified O&M Specialist credential from ACVREP within 12 months. Pay Structure Starting salary is Step 1: $29.95/hour. After 6 months and annually thereafter, advance to next step. Longevity supplements begin after 5 years.
