Pay Range: $23.10hr - $25.00hr

Job Overview:

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data and decontamination, and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Properly explain the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) as required in a clear and courteous manner.
Demonstrate technique using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure complete accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment where required.
Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
2 to 4 years of experience.
