RN Observation Unit

Location: Shea Medical Center, 9003 E Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 Category: Skilled Nursing | Shift: Night | Department: Observation Unit‑1A | Sign On Bonus available Responsibilities Practice guided by ANA Standards for Professional Nursing and Code of Ethics. Apply nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures in caring for the patient population. Record patient medical history and symptoms; assist with diagnostic tests and analysis. Operate medical equipment and administer treatments and medications. Coordinate patient follow‑up and rehabilitation. Establish or contribute to a patient care plan, including medication administration, IV line management, therapies, and monitoring. Educate patients and families on illness or injury management, post‑treatment needs, diet, nutrition, exercise, and self‑administration of medication. Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides; delegate care appropriately. Support clinical knowledge advancement and participate in staff education. Precept new hire staff and students, assisting them in completing competency skills. Continuously enhance knowledge of nursing management and patient care. Improve patient experience and clinical outcomes while promoting a healthy work environment. Adopt a shared governance model for decision‑making and evidence‑based practice. Stroke Patient Care Requirements Knowledge of stroke symptoms and warning signs. Understanding of protocols and pathways for identification, evaluation, and management. Familiarity with the NIH Stroke Scale. Ability to activate and follow Stroke Alert protocols. Awareness of stroke quality indicators. Availability of stroke patient education materials and community resources. Completion of educational requirements linked to the Stroke Center website. Essential Functions Collect health data systematically, prioritizing based on patient condition and involving family. Analyze assessment data to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized patient care plans. Identify expected outcomes and develop family‑centered, evidence‑based care plans. Implement interventions, including treatments, medications, emergency measures, and standing orders. Provide comprehensive nursing care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs. Monitor patient progress toward outcomes and document observations and interventions. Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans to optimize patient outcomes and cost‑effective delivery. Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice standards, regulations, and policies. Integrate ethical principles and cultural diversity considerations into practice. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and peers in professional development. Sponsor evidence‑based practice improvements and research integration. Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost in patient care planning and delivery. Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN). All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have five or more years of Registered Nurse experience. Individuals with direct responsibility for stroke patients refer to the addendum for stroke‑specific education requirements. Licenses & Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and ongoing BLS training. Registered Nurse state or compact state licensure in Arizona. National certification specific to the unit’s patient population. Unit‑specific certification (e.g., DOP) as required by specialty area. Experience Greater than 10 months in medical‑surg or acute specialty setting. At least one year RN experience required for float positions.
