Job Summary As a Prototype Assembler II, you will perform electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical assembly and rework operations in support of engineering development, prototype evaluation, and low-volume product builds. Assembly activities may include printed circuit boards (PCBs), cable harnesses, evaluation kits, and other electronic assemblies used for product development and validation. This role works closely with Engineers and senior Prototype Assemblers to build, modify, troubleshoot, and document assemblies used in engineering and prototype environments. The Prototype Assembler II is expected to maintain quality workmanship, follow established procedures, and support multiple engineering projects while adapting to changing priorities. Roles & Responsibilities- Perform assembly and rework of electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical assemblies.
- Assemble printed circuit boards (PCBs), cable harnesses, evaluation kits, and prototype hardware using assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOM), work instructions, and engineering guidance.
- Perform SMT and through-hole soldering and rework on electronic assemblies.
- Follow verbal and written instructions including documents, schematics, engineering sketches, and work instructions.
- Read and follow assembly drawings, BOMs, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Support prototype and engineering development builds and assist with product modifications and engineering change activities.
- Inspect own workmanship and perform routine rework as required prior to job completion.
- Maintain build records and documentation as required for assigned assemblies and projects.
- Apply ESD, handling, cleanliness, and safety requirements when working with electronic components and assemblies.
- Communicate build issues, observations, and improvement opportunities to Engineers and senior Prototype Assemblers.
- Assist with troubleshooting assembly-related issues under the guidance of Engineers, Assembly Leads, and senior Prototype Assemblers.
- Maintain organized work areas, tools, and assembly equipment.
- Adapt to changing priorities and support multiple prototype projects as business needs require.
- Work effectively with Engineers and team members to meet project schedules and deliverables.
- Two or more years of related electronic assembly experience or equivalent technical training.
- Experience with SMT and through-hole soldering techniques.
- Proficient use of soldering irons, hand tools, microscopes, and electronic assembly equipment.
- Experience assembling and reworking PCB assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, bills of materials (BOM), work instructions, and specifications.
- Ability to identify common solder non-conformances and perform routine corrective rework.
- Experience working with SMT components, including 0402-sized components; experience with 0201 components is desirable.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to accurately complete build documentation and communicate effectively in English in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
- Good manual dexterity and attention to detail with the ability to perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities while maintaining quality standards.
- Ability to work with and around chemicals used in electronic assembly processes.
- Experience supporting Engineers and working in a laboratory, manufacturing, or development environment.
- Knowledge of ESD handling and cleanliness requirements for electronic assemblies.
- High School Diploma or GED required
