Software Engineer 1 (C++ MEC MapTech)We are seeking a full-time software engineer 1 (C++ MEC MapTech) at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will help build tools, libraries, and algorithms that power Garmin's industry-leading maps. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for working with geospatial data, complex data processing systems, or performance-critical algorithms and data structures. You will partner closely with Garmin's cartography and map technology teams to turn real-world data into trusted map experiences used across Garmin products.Essential functions:Performs new product and/or application software design and development as well as maintenance activities for products and/or applications already in productionBuilds upon existing software solutions to develop basic software in C++ for Garmin products and/or applications consistently following Garmin's coding standards and in accordance with applicable software development methodologyTroubleshoots basic issue reports, reproduces issues, evaluates technical cause and implements and tests software solutionsIdentifies and resolves defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques such as debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzersApplies design standards and procedures using appropriate engineering tools to document and implement basic designs in an organized mannerReviews product and/or application information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracyParticipates in product and/or application definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffsBasic qualifications:Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering, aerospace engineering, math, physics or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Demonstrated knowledge, education, experience and/or training necessary to develop basic software in C++Desired qualifications:Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer productsInterest in data structures, algorithms, pathfinding, embedded file formats or GIS desktop applicationsPrevious work or internship experience in cartographic, GIS, or geospatial fieldsGarmin international is an equal opportunity employer.
