Door Person / Security

Location: La Esquina SoHo Brasserie – New York, NY
Department: Front of House
Reports To: General Manager / Manager on Duty

La Esquina SoHo is seeking a professional, personable, and security-vetted Door Person to oversee the entrance of the Brasserie and help maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-managed environment for our guests and team.

This position serves as the first point of contact for guests arriving at La Esquina and requires the ability to balance hospitality with effective door and security management. The ideal candidate is confident, observant, calm under pressure, and able to enforce venue policies professionally and consistently.

The Door Person works closely with the management and host teams to manage guest entry, monitor activity around the entrance, and identify and appropriately respond to potential safety or security concerns.

Door & Guest Management

• Greet and acknowledge guests professionally upon arrival.

• Maintain an organized, controlled, and welcoming entrance to the Brasserie.

• Work closely with the host and management teams regarding reservations, capacity, wait times, and guest flow.

• Manage lines and groups gathering around the entrance to ensure sidewalks and neighboring entrances remain accessible.

• Clearly and professionally communicate venue policies to guests.

• Assist with maintaining appropriate occupancy and controlling entry when required.

• Check identification when necessary and support compliance with applicable age restrictions and venue policies.

Safety & Security

• Maintain active awareness of activity inside and immediately surrounding the entrance.

• Identify potential safety, security, or behavioral concerns before they escalate.

• Prevent unauthorized individuals from entering restricted or controlled areas.

• Professionally intervene when guests are behaving in an unsafe, disruptive, threatening, or inappropriate manner.

• Immediately communicate significant incidents or concerns to the Manager on Duty.

• Assist management with the safe removal of guests when necessary, using de-escalation as the first approach.

• Follow established procedures for emergencies, disturbances, suspected intoxication, medical incidents, and other safety concerns.

• Document incidents accurately when requested by management.

• Coordinate appropriately with emergency services or law enforcement when directed by management or when circumstances require immediate intervention.

Hospitality & Professionalism

• Represent La Esquina professionally at all times.

• Maintain a calm, courteous, and respectful demeanor, including during challenging guest interactions.

• Use good judgment and discretion when addressing sensitive situations.

• Avoid unnecessary confrontation and prioritize verbal communication and de-escalation.

• Treat all guests consistently and respectfully and enforce policies without discrimination.

• Maintain professional boundaries while remaining approachable and hospitality-focused.

• Prior experience in restaurant, nightlife, hospitality, venue security, or a similar guest-facing security role strongly preferred.

• Must meet all applicable New York State and New York City requirements for performing security-related duties.

• Must successfully complete any security vetting or background requirements established for the position.

• Strong situational awareness and sound judgment.

• Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.

• Ability to remain composed and professional in high-pressure situations.

• Comfortable working in a high-volume, late-night hospitality environment.

• Ability to work collaboratively with managers, hosts, servers, bartenders, and other members of the security team.

• Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance.

• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

The position requires extended periods of standing and working at or immediately around the restaurant entrance. The Door Person must be able to move quickly through the venue when necessary and perform the reasonable physical functions associated with maintaining guest and employee safety.

The Door Person is expected to use the minimum intervention necessary to safely manage any situation. Physical confrontation should be avoided whenever reasonably possible, with communication, de-escalation, management involvement, and appropriate emergency assistance prioritized.

Any use of unnecessary or excessive force, threatening behavior, discriminatory enforcement of policies, harassment, retaliation, or conduct inconsistent with La Esquina's standards may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

At La Esquina, security is an extension of hospitality. The goal of this position is not simply to control the door, but to help create an environment where guests and employees feel safe, welcomed, and respected while protecting the restaurant and maintaining appropriate standards of conduct.
