Laboratory Intern

College Intern Position

The City of Brentwood is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented college intern to join the City of Brentwood Water Quality Laboratory. The Laboratory supports both the Wastewater and Water Operations Divisions by conducting chemical and microbiological analyses for regulatory compliance. This internship offers valuable knowledge and hands-on experience in the public sector to help guide interns toward careers in the industry. Interns will be expected to learn and participate in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of a certified wastewater and drinking water laboratory.

The ideal candidate should be working toward a related degree and possess a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn and work well within a team. The internship is expected to run for one year. Scheduled hours will be flexible with a minimum of 8 hours weekly and shifts of at least 4 hours. Not to exceed 1,000 hours in a year.

Responsibilities may include:

• Perform routine sampling and analysis under the supervision of laboratory staff
• Assist with daily operations by preparing glassware, maintaining supply inventory, and organizing work areas
• Calibrate and maintain basic laboratory equipment
• Proofread and enter data across various documents, files, and software systems
• Support the laboratory's quality assurance program through documentation and recordkeeping

Qualifications

The Internship Program is available to current college students. Please be sure to include in your application the following:

2. Letter of Reference - Please have a school administrator fill out and sign this Letter of Reference. A school administrator may include professors, instructors, counselors, deans, or other college administrators who are familiar with your academic performance, character, or involvement at the school.

• Review of applications to ensure all materials have been submitted.
• Department Interview - All candidates that submit a completed application packet will have their documents sent to the Hiring Department. The Hiring Department will review all of the application materials and select the top candidates to be invited to interviews.
• Pre-Employment - Applicant who is offered the internship will be required to be fingerprinted through the City.
• Orientation - Once all pre-employment requirements have been completed and required documents have been submitted, the applicant will be scheduled for their first day of orientation.
