About Niles Veterinary Clinic Niles Veterinary Clinic is a modern, AAHA accredited, 4‑veterinarian practice that provides high‑quality, full‑service care for dogs, cats, and pocket pets. Externship Overview Students who are looking to become veterinarians and are in school will work closely with the supervising associate veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical exams Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe and assist in surgical procedures Manage patient medical care Communicate with the medical team, support staff, and clients Qualifications 4th‑year veterinary student Enrolled in the clinical portion of veterinary education Strong communication and teamwork skills Commitment to patient care and learning Stipend Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
