We are seeking a dependable and experienced Fleet and Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair our growing fleet of trucks, trailers, tree-care equipment, and small engines. Competitive pay based on experience. Top range of pay reserved for candidates with extensive knowledge of equipment involved with running a tree company.

This is a hands-on position for someone who can diagnose problems accurately, complete repairs efficiently, and help keep our crews operating safely. Our equipment works hard every day, so we need a mechanic who takes pride in preventive maintenance, organization, and repairs that are done correctly the first time.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, mechanically skilled, and comfortable working on a wide variety of equipment rather than performing the same repair every day.

Our fleet includes:

• Chip trucks
• Log trucks
• Bucket trucks and aerial lifts
• Cranes and material-handling equipment
• Wood chippers
• Stump grinders
• Skid steers and compact equipment
• Trailers
• Chainsaws, blowers, and other small-engine equipment
• Hydraulic, electrical, diesel, and gasoline-powered equipment

Experience with every type of equipment is not required, but applicants must have a strong mechanical foundation and be willing to learn.

Primary Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, and engine problems
• Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled services
• Repair diesel and gasoline-powered trucks and equipment
• Inspect and repair brakes, suspension, steering, lighting, and electrical systems
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic leaks, hoses, fittings, cylinders, and related components
• Maintain chippers, stump grinders, skid steers, trailers, and other tree-care equipment
• Perform basic welding and fabrication when needed
• Conduct routine fleet and equipment inspections
• Identify safety concerns and remove unsafe equipment from service
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and help minimize crew downtime
• Order and organize parts, fluids, filters, and shop supplies
• Maintain accurate service and repair records
• Communicate repair status, equipment needs, and major concerns to management
• Keep the shop, tools, parts storage, and work areas clean and organized
• Help establish and follow preventive-maintenance schedules
• Review outstanding repairs and maintenance priorities each week
• Perform other fleet, facility, and equipment-related duties as needed

Required Qualifications

• Professional experience repairing vehicles, heavy equipment, landscaping equipment, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, or similar machinery
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic ability
• Experience with diesel and gasoline engines
• Working knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and more involved mechanical repairs
• Ability to safely use diagnostic equipment, power tools, air tools, jacks, lifts, and shop equipment
• Ability to work independently and manage repair priorities
• Strong attention to safety and workmanship
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to provide basic personal hand tools appropriate for the position

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience maintaining commercial trucks or tree-care equipment
• Experience with aerial lifts, cranes, chippers, stump grinders, or skid steers
• Welding and light fabrication experience
• Commercial Driver’s License
• Massachusetts hoisting license
• ASE certifications or manufacturer training
• Experience with DOT inspections and commercial-vehicle compliance
• Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment
• Experience maintaining service records and preventive-maintenance programs

Preferred licenses and certifications are helpful but are not required for the right candidate.

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to:

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in different positions
• Regularly lift and carry parts, tools, and materials
• Occasionally lift heavier items with assistance or mechanical equipment
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Safely climb into, under, and around trucks and equipment
• Perform work around grease, oil, fuel, dirt, noise, and moving machinery
• Wear required personal protective equipment
