Overview: This is a full-time position following the SEDOL calendar; the work day will be determined according to the nurse's assignment. Duties include the provision of a school health program and delivery of services to students and staff members in order to enhance health and wellness in the school community. Nursing care performed in accordance with the standards of professional school nurse practice, district and SEDOL policies and procedures, and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
Performance Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities: All SEDOL registered nurses should be able to work in any assignment within the SEDOL community. SEDOL will provide training and assure all nurses have appropriate skills prior to making assignments. All nursing assignments are made based on the needs of the students. Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
Coordination:
1.Develop and administer a coordinated school health program.
2.Collect and analyze epidemiological and other school health information and makerecommendations based upon data.
3.Assess the health and safety needs of the school environment; implement bloodbornepathogens control and reinforce universal precautions.
4.Manage school health records and promote compliance with health-related regulationssuch as immunizations and school physicals as outlined in the Illinois School Code and bythe Illinois Department of Public Health.
5.Participate in the development of health-related policies and procedures in compliance withstate mandates and current health practices.
6. Analyze attendance patterns and consult with students' families and administration to address any issues.
7. Participate as a crisis team member and provide crisis intervention for students and staff in the event of sudden illness or injury.
Teaching:
1.Participate as a member of the educational team as a resource for health issues.
2.Provide staff inservice programs on health topics.
3.Provide health related classroom instruction.
4.Provide staff education about student's medical needs as needed.
5.Participate as a member of the curriculum committee as a resource and specialist In health issues.
Clinical Practice:
1.Provide direct nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staffincluding nursing assessment, identifying health problems, making referrals for diagnosisand treatment, recommending educational modifications, providing follow-up andevaluation, and maintaining appropriate documentation.
2.Administer medication and/or treatments in accordance with SEDOL's policy andprocedures. Medications, routine tests and/or treatments in accordance withSEDOL policies and procedures.
3.Maintain accurate medical records and documentation including immunizations, physicalexaminations, and medical conditions.oDevelop individual health care plans for students requiring special nursingprocedures during the school day.oComplete a Health History for students having a case study evaluation and aHealth History Update for those students having a three-year reevaluationIn consultation with the school nurse.oDevelop student focused health plans with measurable goals and objectivesas needed based on student health needs during the school day.
4.Provide health information and counseling for students, parents, and staff.
5.Recommend modification of school programs for students who may require changes dueto their medical status. RN-IEP designees, may provide educational recommendations toIEP team based on student's health needs.
6.Make appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandatedreporter.
7.Accompany students on mobility trips as indicated by their medical status or IEP asneeded.
8.Supervision of and assistance to Registered Nurses and 1:1 Nurses, SEDOL and agencyNurses.
Health Office Management and Communication:
1. Set-up and maintain an organized and efficient health services facility.
2. Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the health and safety needs of students.
3. Communicate with and act as a liaison between the home, school community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
4.Assist in planning the health service annual budget.
5.Participate in staffing's, case reviews, annual reviews and parent conferences. Attend facultymeetings.
6.Work with community agencies for effective use of their resources and facilities. Develop andmaintain a list of community resources for students' families and staff.
7.Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the nursing coordinator and/or principal/sector supervisor.
Professional Development:
1.Participate as a member of professional school nursing and education organizations andutilize continuing education opportunities to enhance professional knowledge in both nursingand education fields.
2.Participate as an active member of the school community representing health/wellness.
3.Maintain state licensure and school nurse certification by meeting Continuing EducationRequirements.
4.Complete State required training per Illinois State Code-i.e.: Medical Cannabis training.
5.Attend monthly Nurses' meetings.
Salary: per FY25 $44,799 - $72,440 (FY26 contract under negotiation) , based on education and experience.

Qualifications: Illinois Registered Nurse license
- Baccalaureate Degree
- Professional Educator License-Certified School Nurse
- Current CPR-AED certification for the Professional Rescuer
- Computer literacy
- Competency in the use of current medical technology
- Prior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community or mental health nursing, and health program management
