Join the Rural Water Team: Water Circuit Rider – Eastern NC The North Carolina Rural Water Association (NCRWA) is seeking a skilled and motivated Water Circuit Rider to provide technical, managerial, and financial, and assistance to rural public water systems in eastern North Carolina. This is an independent role suited for a professional who can manage their own schedule and work directly with water system operators, managers, and governing boards to address operational challenges, improve compliance, and strengthen long-term sustainability. What We Are Looking For: Practical experience in public water system operations, including water treatment, distribution, regulatory compliance, and utility management Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess system challenges and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in the water industry required North Carolina Water Treatment and/or Distribution certifications strongly preferred Degrees in environmental science, engineering, public administration, or related fields will be considered Thorough understanding of drinking water regulations, operational best practices, and industry standards Familiarity with utility planning, budgeting, asset management, and infrastructure improvement strategies Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, online research, and electronic reporting systems Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience facilitating meetings with utility staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders Ability to manage travel budget and weekly work schedule independently A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and reliable transportation (required) Willingness to travel extensively across eastern North Carolina, with limited overnight stays Attendance at out-of-state conferences and trainings (typically two separate weeks per year) What We Offer: At NCRWA, you’re not just taking a job – you’re joining a mission-driven team dedicated to serving wastewater systems and the communities they serve.
