Corporate Affairs Director, Research Join Amgen’s mission of serving patients. Location: Thousand Oaks or San Francisco (highly preferred). Responsibilities Develop and implement strategic communication plans that effectively and consistently convey the science and innovation occurring in research to targeted key audiences and stakeholders. Execute communication plans flawlessly and deliver measurable results. Develop and support an executive engagement plan for the Research SVP and key VPs, including proactive media training and presentation skill preparation. Partner with the media relations team to address incoming media requests related to research and proactively secure trade press coverage to elevate Amgen’s leadership in drug discovery. Collaborate with the product communications team and therapeutic leads on therapeutic area strategy and positioning. Manage and direct public relations agency partners to ensure maximum impact and alignment with communication goals. Work in partnership with Research leaders and HR on employee engagement and internal communications. Partner successfully with investor relations to maintain consistency of messages to external audiences. Reports to the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Research & Development, with a dotted line to the SVP Research. Basic Qualifications Doctorate degree & 4 years of communications or public relations experience. OR Masters degree & 7 years of communications or public relations experience. OR Bachelors degree & 9 years of communications or public relations experience. Preferred Qualifications Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism. Experience working in-house or within a PR agency. Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare product public relations, including corporate experience highly desired. Hands‑on experience in scientific or research communications desired. Strong oral and presentation skills; ability to negotiate and persuade. Outstanding writing skills and proven media relations skills that are results‑oriented. Strategic and creative thinker with ability to develop actionable programs that integrate with business objectives. Ability to efficiently navigate a challenging and dynamic environment and manage rapidly changing priorities. Ability to interact with all levels of management and manage staff and vendors. Ability to think quickly, analytically, and creatively to accommodate a dynamic communications environment.
