Production Technician

Date: May 8, 2026 Location: Marshall, TX, US, 75670 Company: NRG Job Summary A shift employee that is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance activities for the Harrison County Energy Center. The facility is a 550 MW natural gas power station in Marshall, Texas. Essential Duties / Responsibilities Ability to work with other assigned personnel in the performance of all shift activities in a professional manner. Perform the required activities of the control room and roving operator watch station, including operation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of all equipment; test and treat plant water chemistry; create and maintain plant records; extensively use personal computers and distributed control systems; electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting; and other related duties. Maintain high professional, personnel, and equipment safety and environmental consciousness while adhering to compliance standards and practices. Maximize plant efficiency and profits without degrading personnel and equipment safety practices, environmental requirements, or concerns for the long‑term operation of the plant. Ensure all environmental permit conditions are consistently complied with. Perform other assigned independent, team, or shift activities, including but not limited to industrial safety program activities, routine maintenance tasks, housekeeping and general facility preservation, and any other activity directed. Take the lead in assigned maintenance activities in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, and warehousing due to specialty training and experience. Interface with the Plant Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP) with proficiency in all modules (Work Order, Purchasing, Inventory Control, Timekeeping). Assist in developing and defining operational policies and procedures as requested. Assist in identifying and implementing plant or profit improvement projects. Assist in developing the annual budget and training plan for plant operations by providing the plant’s needs using specialized skill or training. Respond quickly to plant conditions or requirements that may involve extended and/or abnormal work hours. Cross‑train in the required plant disciplines of operations and maintenance, including Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, and Mechanical. Assist in the selection, administration, and oversight of contractors supporting plant activities, e.g., electrical, mechanical, gas maintenance, janitorial, building and grounds, predictive maintenance, HVAC, etc. Operate company vehicles, including trucks, forklifts, and other mobile equipment. Perform plant housekeeping functions. Work with OSHA‑classified hazardous materials. Working Conditions Work in a power plant environment: inside and outside, all temperatures and climate conditions, following Heat Stress procedures. Operate near large rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment in high noise areas, confined spaces, elevations above 100 feet, or platforms at heights of 5 feet or greater. Climb stairways, ladders, and use aerial devices. Work irregular or rotating shifts and respond to emergency callouts. Travel up to 25% of the time. Minimum Requirements Associate’s Degree in Instrumentation/Controls, Industrial Electronics or related field OR 2 years’ equivalent industrial experience in Instrumentation/Controls, Industrial Electronics, or Process Technician. Valid Driver’s License. Ability to read and comprehend extensive written procedures for operation and maintenance of the plant. Preferred Qualifications Experience in power plant operations or maintenance in gas and/or steam turbines with comprehensive knowledge of power plant equipment and its operation. Significant experience or ability to be versatile in the use of personal computers and numerous software applications. Work experience of 5 years in instrumentation or ICE (Instrumentation Controls Electrical). Additional Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Qualify and maintain qualification as a control room and roving operator. Work extended hours when required. Complete plant qualification program to the level of Control Room Operator. Productively work independently and as an integral plant staff team member. Work outdoors in all types of weather. Tag Out/Lock Out equipment per NRG’s Tag Out/Lock Out procedure. Physical Requirements Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination including a drug and alcohol test. Must have the ability to distinguish between colors; climb ladders; work at heights up to 100 feet above the ground; close and open large valves and breakers; operate various sized components from small electrical switches to computer keyboards; perform chemical sampling procedures; and handle quickly changing situations under stress. Must be capable of performing work requiring safety equipment including switching suits, fall protection, chemical suits, goggles, respirators, and any other equipment identified for the safe operation and maintenance of the plant. Occasional travel for training and/or other company business, including travel by automobile and commercial airlines. NRG Energy is committed to a drug and alcohol‑free workplace.
