PROJECT ENGINEER

Job Details Position: Project Engineer / Project Manager Type: Full Time Location: Raleigh, NC (initial) and Tampa, FL (subsequent), with travel to other states Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 annually, DOE Company: HPM, Inc. (General Contractor) Benefits Health, dental, and vision insurance Life insurance and disability coverage 401(k) retirement plan with 4% matching, fully vested from start date 529 college savings plan Flexible paid time off for work‑life balance Duties and Responsibilities Safety – Prioritize safety on site, enforce HPM and project safety plans, participate in weekly site safety inspections, document issues, and report findings. Quality – Develop work plans, evaluate and recommend improvements, collaborate to produce high‑quality plans, facilitate the quality‑control program, maintain testing and inspection records, and support superintendent walk‑through inspections. Compliance – Implement and enforce stormwater management plans and other project‑specific compliance requirements. Scheduling – Attend coordination meetings, receive training in HPM scheduling techniques, develop and monitor project schedules, prepare monthly schedule updates and reports, and coordinate subcontractor/buy‑out processes, submittals, shop drawings, approvals, material deliveries, and mobilization. Project Administration – Lead use of project‑management software (Procore, RMS, etc.), prepare monthly owner pay applications, maintain as‑built documentation, lead OAC meetings, manage permitting and occupancy certificates, control document revisions, handle RFIs, submittals, and transmittals, oversee shop‑drawing and submittal processes, and manage close‑out activities including Buildr site set‑up, document assembly, and owner training. Cost Control – Collect and analyze cost data, set low‑cost goals, review cost coding, manage quantity tracking, prepare monthly cost reports and forecasts, identify cost and schedule risks, lead cost/production meetings, benchmark past cost integrity, and understand production rates. Procurement – Create purchase orders, draft vendor contracts, order, receive, and inspect materials, approve pay applications, and maintain procurement logs. Field Execution – Support field staff as needed. Contract Administration – Read and analyze construction and contract documents, identify changes, track costs, evaluate impact on schedule and cost, price changes, process change orders, perform time‑impact analysis, train in subcontract negotiation, and manage change‑order resolution. Preferred Qualifications OSHA 30 certification USACE CQM certification Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in construction management, construction engineering, or a related field, or comparable work experience. At least 5 years of experience in commercial, civil, and/or federal construction. OSHA 10 certification. U.S. citizenship. Minimum age 18. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Detail‑oriented with strong organization and multitasking abilities in fast‑paced environments. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Self‑starter motivated to pursue excellence and proactive problem‑solving. Strong work ethic and commitment to accurate results. Commitment to safety and teamwork. Proficient in MS Office, Bluebeam, and adaptable to new software; experience with Procore, Microsoft Project, and scheduling tools is a plus. Solid understanding of quantity tracking and its relation to production and budget. Collaborative team member capable of independently meeting deadlines, goals, and objectives. Reliable attendance, punctuality, and availability for overtime and weekend work. Ability to work safely and adhere to written and oral instructions, safety protocols, equipment guidelines, and company policies. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift 25+ pounds frequently.
