Responsibilities: As a Utilities Locator, you will identify, locate, and mark the underground utility locations to minimize accidental damages or service interruptions due to excavation activities in construction. You should be familiar with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures. Additionally, you will:
- Be responsible for locating cables and verifying them according to designated plans and blueprints.
- Maintain company equipment according to service requirements and safety guidelines.
- Perform any other assigned tasks or responsibilities.
Qualifications: About you: You make safety a part of the daily routine. You have a track record of completed work with a high level of performance. You seek problem-solving and practical focus in the work area. You look for long-term projects. You enjoy team collaboration. Since the Utilities Locator typically works alone, an employee in this class is expected to exercise considerable initiative to move efficiently through the day's work assignments. Considerable independent judgment should be used as the accuracy of the location depends largely on how the equipment readings are interpreted. You will be directly responsible for all personal actions and any personal, vehicle, or equipment under your care, custody, or control. You must immediately report any personal, vehicle/equipment accidents or incidents to supervisors and the company and collaborate in the investigation. You possess a high school diploma or a GED is preferable. You have prior experience in underground utility construction, which is an advantage. You have general knowledge of construction practices. You have the ability to read and understand blueprints, electronic section rooms, and parcel maps. You are willing to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions (snow, rain, wind, etc.) and to work overtime as needed. You have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Having a valid CDL (Class A) license is a plus. You can lift up to 50 pounds. You must be willing to spend long periods bending, crouching, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting in awkward positions, standing, twisting, reaching above shoulder level, or working in confined spaces.
