Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Employment Law Associate to join our firms labor and employment practice. The associate will advise employers and employees on a wide range of employment issues, handle investigations, prepare and litigate cases, and counsel clients on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. The role balances counseling and litigation, requiring strong legal research, drafting, and advocacy skills and the ability to manage a dynamic caseload while contributing to client development and firm goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice to clients on employment-related matters, including hiring, termination, discipline, workplace policies, accommodations, and discrimination claims.
• Conduct internal investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wage-and-hour violations; prepare investigation reports and recommended actions.
• Draft and review employment agreements, handbooks, policies, severance agreements, settlement agreements, and other employment-related documents.
• Represent clients in administrative proceedings (EEOC, state fair employment agencies, labor boards) and in state and federal courts; prepare pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and dispositive motions.
• Manage litigation tasks including preparing for and taking depositions, drafting briefs and motions, handling discovery, coordinating experts, and supporting trial preparation.
• Advise clients on wage-and-hour compliance, including FLSA classifications, exempt/non-exempt status, and payroll policies; assist with audits and mitigation strategies.
• Counsel clients on labor law matters and union-related issues as needed, including collective bargaining support and unfair labor practice matters.
• Provide practical, business-focused guidance to minimize risk and resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation, and settlement when appropriate.
• Develop and deliver training for clients on employment law topics such as harassment prevention, discrimination, wage-and-hour compliance, and managerial best practices.
• Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on case strategy, supervise/paralegals and junior associates, maintain accurate matter budgets and billing records, and participate in client development and business generation activities.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in the hiring jurisdiction.
• Minimum 3-10 years of practicing experience with a primary focus on employment law; candidates with demonstrable employment-focused experience will be prioritized.
• Proven experience or familiarity with key employment statutes and claims, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, and state/local employment laws.
• Hands-on experience with wage-and-hour matters (FLSA) and employment litigation is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of labor law and union-related processes is a plus.
• Demonstrated litigation experience including drafting pleadings, taking depositions, drafting motions, and participating in hearings or trials preferred.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; ability to distill complex legal issues into practical advice for clients.
• Strong interpersonal skills and client service orientation, with the ability to manage sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to manage a diverse caseload, meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, and handle competing priorities.
• Commitment to professional development, business development, and mentoring junior team members.
