Chipton-Ross is seeking an Operator I for a contract opportunity in Skaneateles, NY.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

Skills:

Ability to Read and Understand Instructions:
  • Candidates must be able to read and comprehend job instructions, part specifications, and assembly drawings. This skill is crucial for following detailed assembly processes accurately.
Visual Inspection Skills:
  • The ability to visually detect defects in components and finished products is essential. This includes attention to detail to ensure quality standards are met.
Teamwork and Communication Skills:
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues, team leaders and supervisors is vital in a collaborative assembly environment.
Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Entry-level Packaging Associates should possess basic problem-solving skills to address minor issues that may arise during the assembly process.
Adaptability:
  • Candidates should be willing to learn and adapt to new processes, station changes, technologies, and changes in production requirements.
  • Production Targets: The role involves working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on meeting production targets and maintaining quality standards.
  • Deadlines: Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines, ensuring that production goals are achieved.
Continuous Improvement Culture
  • Quality Assurance: The work environment promotes a culture of continuous improvement, emphasizing quality assurance and compliance with regulatory standards in manufacturing processes.
  • Feedback and Improvement: Regular feedback and opportunities for process improvement, encouraging Packaging Associates to suggest changes that enhance efficiency and quality.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Packaging Associate is responsible for performing primary packaging of cuff production line and final assembly materials within ISC (146-117) to produce high-quality medical devices and equipment. This role involves working on assembly lines ensuring that products meet quality and regulatory standards. The plays a part in maintaining efficient production processes and contributing to the clients mission of providing innovative and reliable medical products.

This job description outlines the primary duties and responsibilities. However, the role may also include other occasional tasks and assignments, or station changes as needed, in line with the job's assigned factors and production needs.

Packaging Tasks
  • Package cuffs that are coming from production line.
  • Package and label component parts or assemblies for shipment per the work instructions, ensuring protection from potential shipment damage and that all vital parts and instructions are present.
  • Adjust or stack boxes on pallets to prepare for shipping or storage based on work instructions and SOP in compliance with safety standards.
Production Support
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels of components by following work instructions for replenishing any materials needed to complete production of assigned station.
  • Reporting any discrepancies or quality issues to Team Leaders.
Quality Control
  • Escalate any quality issues of parts, materials, defects or non-conformities to a team leader.
  • Follow all SOP and work instructions to ensure they meet quality specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards, documenting all activities in accordance with clients policies and procedures.
Continuous Improvement
  • Complete all required training programs and certifications within designated timeframes.
  • Participate in advanced training programs and Kaizen events to develop skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity.
Safety & Compliance
  • Proactively contributes to zero harm in the workplace for all employees by complying with legal and corporate (EHS) Environmental Health & Safety requirements, safe work practices, and EHS policies and procedures consistently.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to 6S principles and company standards.
  • Report all hazards, near misses and incidents as soon as practicable and participate in identifying actions to prevent harm from occurring to our people and/or our environment.
  • Employees at every level are responsible for quality (GMP) Good Manufacturing Processes and regulatory performance in the department to ensure quality program is met.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, legal documents and safety & ethical standards as outlined by the policies & procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Standing and Walking
  • Prolonged Standing: The role requires standing for extended periods, often for the entire duration of the shift (up to 8 - 12 hours depending on assigned station and shift).
  • Walking: Frequent walking within the production area to move between workstations, retrieve materials, and transport finished products.
Lifting and Carrying
  • Light to Moderate Lifting based on assigned station: The role may involve lifting and carrying materials or components, typically up to 25-55 pounds, depending on the specific assembly tasks. This includes moving items boxed items from storage areas to the assembly line and vice versa.
  • Team lift or lifting equipment required for over 40 lbs. following ergonomics policy.
  • Repetitive Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying of lighter items (typically under 25 pounds) throughout the shift.
Dynamic Lifting Capability:
  • Employees must be able to lift to 35 pounds from the floor to waist height.
  • The ability to lift 23 pounds to shoulder height is also required.
  • For overhead lifting, employees should be able to lift 2 pounds from shoulder height to overhead.
Manual Dexterity
  • Fine Motor Skills: Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are necessary for performing assembly tasks, such as handling small components and operating machinery.
  • Repetitive Motions: The role involves repetitive motions, including twisting, bending, and reaching, assembling components and operate equipment.
Visual Acuity
  • Detail Orientation: Good visual acuity is essential for inspecting assembled products for defects, reading instructions, and ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Close Vision: Ability to focus on close-up tasks, such as assembling small components and inspecting products for quality control.
  • Color Vision: Many assembly tasks in electronic assembling involve color-coded parts, wires, or indicators that are essential for proper assembly and functionality. Accurate color vision helps in identifying these components correctly. In some cases, color vision is critical for safety, such as distinguishing between warning signals or indicators that use color coding to convey important information. Testing will be provided to assess the ability to work in those areas.
Hearing
  • Auditory Skills: Good hearing is necessary to follow verbal instructions, communicate with team members, and respond to safety alerts or machinery signals.
Environmental Factors
  • Noise Levels: The work environment may be noisy due to machinery operation, requiring the use of hearing protection in certain areas.
  • Temperature Control: The production area is typically climate-controlled, but temperatures may vary depending on the specific processes and equipment in use.
Work Environment

Manufacturing Environment
  • Setting: The position is based in a manufacturing facility, featuring assembly lines, machinery, and production equipment.
  • Workstations: Packaging Associates typically work at designated workstations equipped with tools, machinery, and materials necessary for assembly tasks.
Safety Protocols
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Adherence to safety protocols and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, steel toes shoes or boots and earplugs. Requirements are posted in production areas of required PPE for that specific workstation.
  • Safety Training: Participation in safety training programs to ensure compliance with the safety standards and regulations.
Collaboration and Teamwork
  • Team Environment: The work environment emphasizes collaboration with other Assembler's and production team members, requiring effective communication and teamwork.
REQUIRED EDUCATION

Accredited High School diploma or GED is required.

Experience: No prior experience is required. On-the-job training will be provided to ensure proficiency in assembly tasks and procedures.

WORK HOURS

Saturday & Sunday: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Thursday & Friday: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

The role may involve working in shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, overtime and holidays, to support continuous production operations.
