General Summary The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works within the multidisciplinary clinical team to provide individualized patient care through history and physical assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, medication ordering, prescribing and management, formulating diagnoses, and patient/family education. The APP promotes evidence‑based practice by conducting or participating in research and academic activities, and supports colleagues to promote professional development of the advanced practice profession at Lurie Children’s and in the community‑at‑large. Transition Into Practice Fellowship Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago offers an APP transition into practice fellowship for all new graduate APPs and all new hire APPs, even those with experience. The fellowship is a supportive structure that includes quarterly didactic sessions, facilitated peer‑supported transition sessions, structured mentorship, and precepted practice‑based learning with standardized competencies. APPs in the fellowship are paid employees of the institution and receive additional support to build confidence and collaborative practice skills. Essential Job Functions Provide expert clinical care, education, consultation, advocacy, research, leadership, and mentorship. Manage primary, acute, and chronic health problems through comprehensive history, physical examination, assessment, and diagnosis, including palliative and end‑of‑life care. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures. Order and prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic interventions and perform other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status. Promote the advancement of the profession at Lurie Children’s and the community‑at‑large, including publication, participation in professional organizations, and educational support to nursing staff. Collaborate and coordinate care with the medical team to deliver evidence‑based care and establish best practices in clinical care. Participate in research design, implementation, and interpretation. Meet the Medical Staffs Allied Health Practitioners core measures of performance: patient care, medical knowledge, practice‑based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, and system‑based practice. Perform job functions adhering to service principles with a customer service focus of innovation, service excellence, and teamwork to provide the highest quality care to patients, families, co‑workers, and others. Role may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school appropriate for certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. (CNS certification is not acceptable if hired after January1,2010.) Two (2) years of relevant clinical experience preferred. Licensure in the State of Illinois as an APRN/PA required. Clinical privileges through credentialing by the Medical Staff Office achieved within 90 days of hire. Basic Life Support certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification and/or other specialty certification required in some areas within 6 months of employment. Any other certification required for specialty area. Excellent interpersonal skills, basic computer skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills. Pay Range $64.00‑$105.60 per hour. Benefits Statement Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
