Special Education - Audiology Technician

The Audiology Technician provides essential support to audiological services for both general and special education students. This position assists licensed audiologists with evaluations, coordinates district-wide hearing screenings and manages administrative and compliance-related tasks. The Audiology Technician prepares students for testing, supports families during the evaluation process, and ensures accurate documentation and scheduling of services. This role is strictly supportive in nature and does not include independent evaluations, interpretation of results, or clinical decisionmaking. The technician works under the supervision of a licensed Audiologist. This position reports to the Director of Department Exceptional Students or their Designee. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the audiologist during student evaluations by preparing and conditioning students, assisting during testing sessions, supporting families, and helping with Behavioral Observation Audiometry (BOA) and Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed audiologist. Sets up, maintains, and organizes audiology equipment. Coordinates and assists with district-wide hearing screenings by scheduling events, communicating with schools, setting up and breaking down equipment, supporting on-site screenings, conducting on-call non-diagnostic screenings, and maintaining documentation.
Manages scheduling and appointment confirmations, maintains student records, processes documentation, responds to calls and emails within 24-48 hours, and assists with record transfers and follow-up communications.
Maintains confidential records in compliance with HIPAA/FERPA, ensures documentation and consent forms are current, and assists with record retention and purging procedures.
Maintains a clean, organized workspace; sanitizes equipment; tracks inventory; and assists with ordering and distributing supplies and materials.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services. KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college credit, or an Associate's degree from an accredited college required. Minimum of 3 years experience working with students with Students with Disabilities or experience in the health field preferred. Provides support that directly impacts the coordination and delivery of audiology services, including scheduling, documentation, and student service preparation. Certification as mandated by the Professional Standards Commission. CPR/First Aid preferred. Uses moderate judgment in daily tasks while working under the direction of a licensed audiologist and following established procedures; seeks guidance as needed. Communicates regularly with audiologists, school staff, and district personnel to support scheduling, service coordination, and documentation. Communicates with parents/guardians and external providers to coordinate appointments, records, and follow-up services in a professional manner. Requires strong written and verbal communication skills to support documentation, scheduling, and coordination of services. Applies technology concepts to improve efficiency and effectiveness of District; must be proficient with computer. Responsibility for the Welfare of Others: Constant (Daily) - to exercise the duty of care and protection of the health, safety, security, welfare, well-being, and best interests of the district's various stakeholders.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office setting. Some travel may be required to conduct testing and screening at assigned school locations.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying 20 lbs. or less
NOTE: This is a grade 18, 190 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 4.
