Police Officer I The Police Officer I, under general supervision, provides specialized professional law‑enforcement skills by giving service, information, and aid to citizens as circumstances require, preventing crime, suppressing disturbances, investigating criminal offenses, and arresting offenders. Responsibilities Patrol designated areas to prevent, discover, and deter the commission of crime, enforce criminal law, direct traffic, and enforce motor vehicle operation and parking regulations. Respond to calls and complaints involving fire, automobile accidents, disturbances, assaults, robberies, and other felonies and misdemeanors. Interact with the public on a day‑to‑day basis, provide assistance to other law‑enforcement, community departments, or local agencies. Secure crime scenes, conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations, gather evidence, obtain witness statements, apprehend suspects, make arrests, and transport offenders. Enforce criminal and traffic laws as well as university rules and regulations, and take appropriate action in accordance with rules, regulations, and policies, and federal, state, and local laws. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of related experience. Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification. State of Texas class 'C' vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Other Requirements Must meet minimum licensing standard requirements as required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) §217.1. Must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation, including driving history, criminal background, and credit history. Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer. Wage and Hours Wage: $24.28 per hour. Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours may vary depending on department needs). Supervisor and Work Location Supervision of Others: This position does not supervise employees. Work Location: Not a remote position. The selected candidate will be required to work on campus.
