Duties Description Under the general supervision of the Professional Engineer (Civil), SG-24, the incumbent may perform journey-level work in the primary trade of heavy equipment operation. Duties may include both skilled and semi-skilled tasks, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to safety standards. Duties may include, but are not limited to:• Operate and maintain a variety of construction equipment, including but not limited to: tractors with lowboy trailer, heavy dump trucks, front end loaders, skid steer loaders, backhoes, rollers, excavators, and bulldozers.• Change oil, fuel, spark plugs, air and hydraulic fluids; check fluid levels, tire pressure, safety devices and control mechanisms of machines prior to operation.• Perform maintenance and repair of infrastructure, including, water/wastewater, storm drainage, electrical systems, plumbing, and related infrastructure.• Perform project planning and coordination, layout procedures, blueprint reading, and purchasing.• Conduct inspections to diagnose issues and determine corrective actions associated with equipment and/or job-related activities.• Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, equipment, and vehicles necessary to complete assigned tasks.• Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and codes.• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) related to assigned job tasks. • May perform medium to heavy manual labor as part of daily tasks. Must be physically able to lift up to 60 pounds.• Collaborate with other staff, contractors, and vendors to complete work efficiently.• Complete work orders, track materials used, and document progress in maintenance systems.• May supervise subordinate staff or assist with training.• The incumbent will also be expected to be deployed to perform work during emergency events as directed by the State Emergency Management Operations Center and/or NYS OPRHP management.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in heavy equipment operation under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. *If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:• Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)*** that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.• Must understand safety practices and regulations for all aspects of operation.• Must be qualified and medically cleared to wear a respirator.• Must possess essential skills in problem solving, critical thinking and decision making.• Must travel to parks throughout the region to meet operational needs.***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive.
