Healthcare Controller – Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations for a growing healthcare organization. This individual will oversee the day-to-day accounting function, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, support operational leadership, and help drive process improvements across the finance department.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, month-end close, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and healthcare-specific accounting regulations
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
• Monitor cash flow and support strategic financial planning initiatives
• Lead audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors and tax partners
• Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
• Partner with operational leaders to analyze financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment
• Assist with system implementations, process automation, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• CPA preferred
• 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership experience strongly preferred
• Healthcare industry experience required, including knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and reporting
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and leadership skills

Preferred Experience

• Experience within hospital, physician group, behavioral health, long-term care, or multi-site healthcare environments
• Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement and healthcare revenue cycle processes
• Experience leading audits and working with executive leadership teams
