Medical Assistant - Contract

Job Title: Medical Assistant
Location: Long Island City, NY
Duration: 2 months Contract
Schedule: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Hourly rate: $21/ hour on W2 Negotiable
Job Duties

• Perform venipuncture/phlebotomy and EKGs as needed.
• Check schedules and coordinate patient flow.
• Escort patients to exam and procedure rooms.
• Assist patients with walking, transferring, and dressing as needed.
• Collect and process specimens and perform point-of-care testing.
• Prepare patients and exam rooms for examinations and procedures.
• Assist physicians with various procedures.
• Take and document vital signs.
• Provide instructions to patients and families.
• Answer patient calls and provide appropriate information.

• Send and receive medical records.
• Obtain lab, X-ray, hospital, referral, and other medical reports.
• Complete forms, requisitions, and required documentation.
• Maintain and organize medical charts and records.
• Enter physician orders into the EMR for review and approval.
• Prepare prescription refill requests for physician approval.
• File operative reports, test results, home-care forms, and other records.
• Schedule and register patients as needed.
• Update patient demographic and insurance information.
• Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient schedules.
• Verify and update insurance information using internal or online resources.
• Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as needed.
• Schedule surgeries/procedures and coordinate with the Surgical Coordinator when required.
• Prepare charts, pre-admission paperwork, and consent forms.

• Basic computer skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
• Excellent telephone etiquette.
• Proficiency in medical terminology.
• Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.
• Knowledge of EMR or medical billing systems preferred, but not required.
• Ability to adapt to a growing and changing work environment.
