Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop software engineering teams through coaching, performance management, career development, and succession planning.
Drive execution of engineering roadmaps and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
Partner closely with Product Management, Architecture, Operations, and business stakeholders to align technology initiatives with organizational objectives.
Provide technical leadership across architecture reviews, system design discussions, and engineering decision-making.
Establish and promote engineering standards, best practices, and development methodologies that support scalability, maintainability, security, and reliability.
Oversee the design and delivery of modern cloud-native applications utilizing microservices, APIs, and distributed system architectures.
Develop and track key engineering performance indicators related to delivery, platform reliability, software quality, and operational efficiency.
Champion continuous improvement efforts across the software development lifecycle, including automation, DevOps practices, and engineering productivity initiatives.
Ensure production environments maintain a high standard of performance, availability, security, and observability.
Collaborate with executive leadership to define technical strategy, staffing plans, and long-term technology investments.
Serve as a senior engineering representative in customer engagements, escalations, strategic initiatives, and executive discussions.
Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-enabled development tools, to improve engineering effectiveness and accelerate delivery.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
10+ years of software engineering experience with progressive responsibility.
5+ years of experience leading and managing software engineering teams in a leadership capacity.
Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale software products and platforms in a cloud environment.
Deep understanding of:
Distributed systems
Microservices architecture
Event-driven systems
API design and integration
Modern software architecture patterns
Experience leading architecture reviews, technical design sessions, and engineering governance initiatives.
Strong understanding of software development methodologies, agile delivery practices, and the full software development lifecycle.
Experience operating production applications with accountability for reliability, scalability, observability, and security.
Demonstrated success partnering with Product Management and business leaders to translate strategic goals into executable technology plans.
Strong experience with one or more modern programming languages, including:
Java
Springboot
Microservices
JavaScript
TypeScript
Scala
Proven ability to build, develop, and retain high-performing engineering teams.
Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within healthcare technology, healthcare operations, or other highly regulated industries.
Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
Experience with large-scale SaaS platforms and cloud-native architectures.
Experience driving engineering transformation, organizational scaling, or modernization initiatives.
Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD automation, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
Experience implementing AI-assisted software development or engineering automation practices.
Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pittsburgh, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $72.50/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
