Qualifications and Experience:
- Current teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairment or related field
- Demonstrated experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) in educational settings
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility concepts
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff
- Ability to assess student needs and adapt instructional materials accordingly
- Commitment to fostering independence and self-advocacy skills in students
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) tailored for visually impaired students
- Deliver both direct instruction and consultation services to ensure accessibility across learning environments
- Collaborate with general and special educators to adapt classroom materials and support inclusive practices
- Train staff and family members on the use of assistive devices and accessibility tools
- Monitor student outcomes and document progress through consistent communication with teams and families
- Advocate for best practices to support student engagement and learning
