Lead Supply Technician

Summary

This Lead Supply Technician is located in the Supply Chain Management Service at the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by the Supply Chain Management Service. This position also leads three or more GS-2005 employees in the distribution area to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital divisions with supplies and materials.

Duties

Help

Major Duties of the Lead Supply Technician include but are not limited to:

• Ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics.
• Leads three or more Supply Technician employees in the distribution area.
• Monitors status and progress of work, makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
• Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work.
• Performs inventory using bar code equipment and resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
• Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
• Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services.
• Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates.
• Ensures critical supplies re appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible.
• Supports wall-to-wall inventories.
• Receives supplies and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area.
• Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons; properly stores supplies and material in main/primary inventory areas.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full Time Monday - Friday Normal Business hours with rotating weekend shifts.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/29/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement : Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 5 Level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

• Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-5, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility.
