Senior Safety Specialist - Construction & General Industry

Location: Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area, MN

Work Arrangement: Full-time, Hybrid

Required Experience: 5+ years in workplace safety

Position Overview:

• Client is a self-insured workers' compensation fund serving construction-related companies across Minnesota. Client is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Safety Specialist to join its Safety Services team.

• This role focuses on helping client members improve workplace safety, manage risk, and maintain compliance with OSHA standards for both construction and general industry. Responsibilities include conducting risk assessments, performing worksite inspections, delivering safety training, developing safety programs, and providing customized safety consultations to construction and manufacturing businesses.

• The Senior Safety Specialist will collaborate closely with CLIENT members and internal Underwriting and Claims teams to identify workplace hazards, evaluate safety performance, and implement long-term risk management solutions.

• The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, an organized self-starter, and a team player with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct risk management surveys and safety assessments for prospective and existing client members.

• Perform worksite safety inspections and recommend corrective actions to reduce workplace hazards and injuries.

• Build and maintain relationships with client members to support ongoing safety improvement initiatives.

• Develop, evaluate, and customize written safety programs based on members' specific operational needs.

• Provide safety consultations, training, and guidance on workplace health and safety requirements.

• Ensure awareness and application of applicable OSHA standards, including OSHA 1910 (General Industry) and OSHA 1926 (Construction).

• Provide guidance on topics such as fall protection, excavation, scaffolding, Right-to-Know (RTK), AWAIR, lockout/tagout (LOTO), job safety analysis (JSA), and accident investigation.

• Work collaboratively with the Underwriting and Claims departments to monitor member performance and analyze injury trends.

• Participate in weekly Safety Services team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

• Manage worksite visits, member consultations, and schedules effectively across Minnesota.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in workplace safety, safety consulting, or a related field.

• Relevant degree in occupational safety or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Strong knowledge of OSHA standards for construction and general industry.

• Experience conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, and workplace hazard identification.

• Experience developing safety programs and providing safety training or consulting.

• Knowledge of workers' compensation-related safety practices and injury prevention.

• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and safety inspection software.

• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and program management skills.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to a team.

• Ability to manage time, prioritize responsibilities, and coordinate multiple site visits.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in construction, manufacturing, general industry, mining, or workers' compensation.

• Professional safety certification such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, or an equivalent credential.

• Experience delivering safety training, presentations, and public speaking engagements.

• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.

• Experience driving a ¾-ton truck with a trailer and ability to obtain a DOT medical card.

Work Environment:

• This is a full-time hybrid position based out of Eagan, Minnesota office. The role requires regular worksite inspections and visits to member client locations throughout Minnesota, along with office-based responsibilities and collaboration with internal teams.
