Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Position Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing basic nursing care to both non-acute and acutely ill residents within a safe and clean environment. The CNA must be able to respond calmly and make sound judgments in emergencies, lift non-ambulatory patients regularly, and maintain a caring attitude toward patients and their families. The job is fast-paced and requires the ability to manage multiple tasks while addressing patient needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Obtain nursing data through resident interviews and observations under the direction of a Licensed Nurse (LN).
• Document findings that are consistent with other healthcare providers while providing general nursing care to adult and geriatric populations.
• Assist with various aspects of patient care, including bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, and applying heat or cold therapies.
• Monitor and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels.
• Collect and transport specimens; report abnormal findings to the supervising LN.
• Provide bedside care: assist with positioning, ambulation, and personal hygiene needs of residents.
• Respond to call lights and perform rounds on assigned residents.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by preparing nursing areas and resident rooms for admissions or discharges.
• Handle and dispose of clean and dirty linen appropriately and store supplies in designated areas.
• Participate in unit-specific duties such as supply ordering and maintaining adequate stock levels.
• Engage in continuous education and training to fulfill unit-specific needs.
• Actively participate in performance improvement projects and serve as a preceptor for incoming staff and students.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• One year of prior experience as a CNA is preferred.
• Current full, unrestricted CNA license in the state of Alaska.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Willingness to complete required training courses specific to unit needs.

This position is covered under the Indian Child Protection Act.
