Lift Technician
Lift Technicians serve as a resource in the use of Safe Patient Handling (SPH) equipment and movement of patients. They also serve as body mechanics and SPH coaches and trainers for staff involved in patient handling. Must be familiar with standard precautions and isolation procedures. Must be skilled in best practices related to patient lifting, proper body mechanics and testing for minimal assistance, safe patient handling and safe practice and procedures. Must be skilled in handling bariatric patients and pediatric patients. The following UCDH Department provided training and testing will be provided upon hire: Required University-provided training and testing (i.e., lift equipment/assistive devices, proper body mechanics, etc.) Required University-provided training and testing Code Blue Training Required University-provided training and testing Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Required University-provided training and testing Maintaining the Dignity of Morbid Obesity in the Hospital Setting Minimum Qualifications For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR within three (3) months of hire. Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within three (3) months of hire. Two (2) years of hands-on patient care experience, preferably in a hospital setting. Experience safely operating wheelchairs, gurneys, electric beds, cribs, and special beds. Experience in recognizing and reporting problems with life support equipment or a sudden change in a patient's condition. Knowledge of and experience safely operating safe patient handling equipment including lifts, friction reducing devices, powered and non-powered patient equipment. Must be skilled in best practices related to patient lifting, proper body mechanics and testing for minimal assistance, Safe Patient Handling (SPH) and safe practice and procedures. Must be familiar with standard precautions and isolation procedures. Must be skilled in handling bariatric patients and pediatric patients. Effective written and verbal communication skills to appropriately comprehend, share and exchange information in English. Responsibly ensure the safety of our patients and staff by adhering to and enforcing the Safe Patient Handling (SPH) policy and using SPH techniques and equipment. Serve as a resource in the use of SPH equipment and movement of patients. Serve as body mechanics and SPH coaches and trainers for staff involved in patient handling. Strong knowledge of patient care support activities, systems, external regulations, and internal policies. Demonstrated analytical experience with the ability to identify, analyze, report and resolve problems accurately and timely. Knowledge and ability to exercise discretion, use good judgment and maintain confidentiality. Skills establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound judgment during medical emergencies. Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques and skill to transfer patients without injury to self, patient or others. Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate Infection Control techniques to safeguard other patients and visitors from infected patients. Knowledge of and skills to perform CPR. Knowledge of 02, IVs/pumps, feeding tubes/pumps, foley bags, and chest tubes. Ability to maintain a culture that values diversity, respect and accepts the contribution of others, and supports open communication. Judgment skills to make independent clinical decisions. Skills to work accurately and quickly under pressure. Knowledge of legal implications for clinical practice. Ability to appropriately use available resources (personnel and equipment/supplies) to ensure that the patients on a specific unit receive safe, appropriate patient care during the course of a shift. Ability to appropriately share and exchange information. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in-patient care setting; assisting in safe patient handling, mobility, and emergency code blue situations is highly recommended. Knowledge of Fair Labor Practices, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and University policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities 85% - Lifting and Transferring Support / Safe Patient Handling (SPH) 15% - Professional Education/Training/Fitness Training Department Overview Patient Support Services Division is comprised of four departments, Lift Team, Mental Health workers and Special Duty Caregivers, Patient Transport and Safe Patient Handling. The Lift Team performs patient handling activities for inpatient departments/units using SPH techniques and equipment in collaboration with the RN and other healthcare providers. Department Specific Job Scope The purpose of this position is to introduce an evidence-based mobility program designed to maintain baseline mobility and functional capacity, decrease incidence of delirium, and help decrease length of stay in hospitalized patients.
