Assistant Professor

Job Summary Position: Full‑time, academic year, tenure‑track in Public Health, appointment beginning August 12, 2027. Department: Kinesiology and Public Health, Bailey College, Cal Poly SLO. The position focuses on expanding teaching and research in healthcare policy and management within the Bachelor of Science in Public Health program. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and a research agenda that actively involves undergraduate students. Responsibilities Teach upper‑division core courses, at least two of the following: Public Health Policy and Advocacy, Healthcare Systems, Comparative Health Systems, and Health Promotion for Special Populations. Develop and revise curriculum, incorporate innovative teaching methods, and support student learning. Conduct scholarly research in health policy, healthcare systems and management, health economics, or related fields, engaging undergraduate students in meaningful scholarship. Write peer‑reviewed articles, present at conferences, and seek external funding for research and creative scholarship. Participate in departmental and university service activities, including committee service, student advising, and industry collaboration. Promote a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment and contribute to campus diversity and inclusion initiatives. Qualifications Doctoral degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Health Services Research, Health Administration or Management, Health Economics, Public Policy or Administration, or a closely related field. Commitment to high‑quality undergraduate teaching. Experience or potential for research that engages undergraduate students. Evidence of scholarly productivity. Evidence of promoting student and colleague well‑being and advancement. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with undergraduate students in a collaborative, supportive environment. Commitment to excellence in teaching public health at the university level. Research or creative scholarship in areas that complement or broaden the department’s research portfolio. Track record of external funding for research and creative scholarship. Experience supervising undergraduate research. Salary and Appointment Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Salary ranges are commensurate with qualifications. Assistant Professor: $97,788 – $107,628. Associate Professor: $112,500 – $118,524. Special Conditions The position requires compliance with California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act as a mandated reporter and with CSU Executive Order 1083.
