About this Job General Summary of Position: Possesses and demonstrates adequate knowledge to provide respiratory care to all patient populations with techniques appropriate to chronological, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Respiratory care is delivered as ordered by the physician according to established standards of practice and protocols. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of established department goals, objectives, and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality and safety standards. Assesses the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of the patient, identifies educational needs, and documents appropriately. Performs all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including application, operation, monitoring, and management of equipment and services: oxygen, mixed gas, humidity, ventilators (invasive and non‑invasive), bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry, EKG machines, and blood gas analysis. Employs principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem‑solving, and crisis intervention during patient care. Reviews electronic medical records and physician orders throughout the shift. Responds to and participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintaining airway, providing oxygen and ventilation via mask, endotracheal tube, or other device, and performing closed‑chest cardiac massage. Facilitates workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems and processes, reviewing departmental policies, and making recommendations for improvement. Performs other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position and area. Utilizes all organizational resources effectively and efficiently. Where applicable, refers to the competency validation documents for the population(s) served. Minimal Qualifications Associate’s degree: Graduate of an AMA accredited program in respiratory care with an AAS degree or higher required. Bachelor’s degree: Baccalaureate degree in a related healthcare field preferred. Less than 1 year of acute‑care experience. Registry eligible required. Licenses and Certifications RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner: Must process and maintain a license to practice in Maryland and/or the District of Columbia. CRT - Certified Respiratory Therapist: Required certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist: Preferred certification from the NBRC. CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 days required. Additional Unit/ Specialty Certifications ACLS, NRP, PALS, and other certifications required within one year where needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology as it relates to respiratory care. Knowledge of the operation of respiratory care equipment and its application in a clinical setting. Ability to assess hazardous conditions and take corrective action. Ability to work with patients of all ages, from neonatal to geriatric. Ability to remain calm and function under stressful conditions. Team‑work orientation, excellent communication, and articulation skills. Salary The position has a hiring range of USD $50.00 per hour. #J-18808-Ljbffr
