Clinical/Medical Lab Scientist - Microbiology Lab - Kings Hwy

Job responsibilities include receiving, preparing, and testing specimens; performing quality control and instrument maintenance; calibrating equipment; performing phlebotomy procedures as appropriate; and maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Key Responsibilities Perform and interpret routine and specialized laboratory testing independently within established time frames. Analyze and record quality control and instrument maintenance data, make judgments concerning results, and take appropriate corrective action. Escalate results that are out of control and document corrective actions. Adhere to regulatory compliance guidelines, accreditation standards, safety protocols, and proficiency testing requirements. Participate in performance‑improvement activities, collect and analyze data, and support business‑development and cost‑reduction initiatives by managing laboratory supplies and reagents. Adapt communication and procedures to meet the needs of diverse patient populations, ensuring privacy and respectful interaction. Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with all organizational policies and standards. Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical, or biological science. Work experience: None required. Certifications Current Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license in the state of practice (if applicable) or equivalent Generalist Trainee permit or Lab Assistant license, with the requirement to obtain the Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license within 90 days of hire. ASCP, AMT, or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist must be obtained within 90 days of hire. ASCP categorical or AAB individual‑discipline certification required only if working in a designated Academic Medical Center facility. Licensure holders who obtained ASCP certification on or after January 1, 2004, must complete the ASCP Certification Maintenance Program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficiency with Windows‑based applications and keyboard use. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to various audiences. Analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Good judgement and conflict‑resolution skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Physical and Environmental Demands The role requires heavy physical activity, including occasional exertion of 50–100 pounds, frequent exertion of 25–50 pounds, and constant exertion of 10–20 pounds to move objects. Work routinely involves exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and possible communicable diseases. The incumbent works in patient‑care areas, directly with patients, and handles specimens that may contain hazardous medications or waste.
