Department: Government Affairs Reports to: Senior Vice President of Governmental Affairs Position Type: Full-time; Exempt Job Overview The Director of Local Government Advocacy plays a critical leadership role in advancing the interests of real estate professionals and protecting private property rights within the local community. This role acts as the association’s highly specialized expert in local government relations, responsible for influencing and shaping policies, regulations, and ordinances that impact the real estate industry to ensure a thriving market. Key Responsibilities Government Advocacy: Develop and implement strategies to advocate for the association's policies and legislative priorities at the local government level. Policy Analysis & Monitoring: Monitor and provide expert analysis of local government regulations, ordinances, and proposed legislation affecting the industry. Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with city council members, planning departments, and other local officials. Public Representation: Represent the association at city council meetings and public hearings to engage in dialogue that advances real estate interests. Member & Grassroots Engagement: Organize grassroots campaigns, educational initiatives, and outreach efforts to mobilize REALTORS and the community around local issues. REALTOR Party & RPAC Support: Assist local associations with RPAC fundraising, goal setting, and REALTOR Party training. Strategic Programs: Provide oversight for Local Issues Mobilization applications, manage the Broker Involvement Program, and coordinate independent expenditure campaigns with local associations. Required Skills and Qualifications Experience: Proven background in government affairs, public policy, or lobbying, with a specific focus on local government relations. Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the real estate industry, local housing markets, and relevant regulatory issues. Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of local government structures, decision‑making processes, and political landscapes. Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders. Strategic Thinking: Ability to create and execute complex advocacy and grassroots mobilization campaigns. Work Environment & Benefits Schedule: In‑office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; remote optional Wednesday and Friday. Travel: Includes travel across Indiana and attendance at National Meetings.
