Job Type: Regular Time Type: Full time Work Shift: Rotating (United States of America) FLSA Status: Non-Exempt The East Campus OR cares for patients undergoing Gynecology, General, Urology, Robotics, Oncology, Orthopedics (Joint Replacements, Sports medicine, and Oncology), Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastic, and Interventional Pulmonology surgical procedures. Staff work 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts and cover call on off-shifts, weekends and holidays. Job Description Job Summary The Surgical Technician I is an individual who is certified and educated to perform surgical technology services that contribute to safe, quality, and fiscally responsible care of patients. This is an entry-level position requiring guidance and supervision, with responsibilities emerging from orientation to practice at the advanced beginner level. Essential Responsibilities Collaborate with the circulating nurse to prepare the operating room, gather supplies, and maintain sterile fields. Assist during intraoperative procedures by passing instruments, sponging, suctioning, preparing sutures, irrigating, handling specimens, and assisting with counts. Recognize and report situations that impede patient safety, maintain patient confidentiality, and uphold ethical standards. Facilitate efficient turnover times and report issues related to kits, equipment, or supplies. Required Qualifications High School diploma or GED. Basic Life Support certification. Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) within 1 year of hire. 0-1 years of related work experience. Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or military/public health training program. Knowledge of computers and basic navigation skills. Competencies Decision Making, Problem Solving, Independence of Action, Communication Skills, Knowledge, Teamwork, Customer Service. Physical Requirements Medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently. Standing and movement required throughout most of the shift.
