Advanced Practice Provider - Adult Reconstruction (PA-C or NP)
Steindler
Job Description
Job Description
Description:
Full-Time | Physician Associate (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Make a Difference in Every Step of the Joint Replacement Journey.
Are you an experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in orthopedic care?
Steindler Orthopedic Clinic is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider – Adult Reconstruction to join our growing team of experienced orthopedic surgeons and clinical professionals.
This is an opportunity to become an integral member of a specialized orthopedic program focused on hip and knee care and joint replacement. You will care for patients throughout their entire journey—from initial evaluation and conservative treatment through surgical preparation, recovery, and long-term follow-up.
Rather than seeing patients for a single visit, you'll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, follow patients through their treatment and recovery, and make a lasting difference in their mobility, function, and quality of life.
Why You'll Love This Opportunity:
Practice with Autonomy
Our physician-APP care model allows APPs to practice at the top of their scope, independently manage appropriate patients, and develop an increasingly independent patient panel while collaborating closely with orthopedic surgeons.
Grow Your Orthopedic Expertise
Whether you are an experienced orthopedic APP or looking to deepen your expertise in Adult Reconstruction, this role provides opportunities for continued clinical development, procedural training, and professional growth.
Develop Procedural Skills
You will have opportunities to develop expertise in joint injections and, for APPs interested in operative care, a potential pathway to surgical first-assist responsibilities based on experience, competency, service-line needs, and clinical performance.
Be Part of Something Growing
Steindler's Adult Reconstruction program continues to grow across Eastern Iowa. You'll have the opportunity to help improve patient access, clinical efficiency, quality, and continuity of care while contributing to the continued development of the program.
As an APP specializing in Adult Reconstruction, you will:
- Independently evaluate and manage new and established patients with orthopedic conditions, with a primary focus on hip and knee conditions and joint replacement.
- Obtain comprehensive histories, perform physical examinations, and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Diagnose and manage musculoskeletal conditions within your professional scope of practice.
- Provide and coordinate conservative treatment options, including medications, injections, therapy, and other non-operative interventions.
- Evaluate patients being considered for joint replacement and provide ongoing management of patients with prior joint replacements.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, risks and benefits, expectations, recovery, and long-term joint health.
- Prepare patients for joint replacement surgery and help ensure appropriate preoperative requirements are completed.
- Conduct preoperative and postoperative evaluations throughout the surgical journey.
- Work closely with orthopedic surgeons throughout the surgical care process.
- Provide postoperative evaluation and management, including monitoring wound healing, pain, mobility, and recovery.
- Recognize potential postoperative complications and coordinate appropriate intervention when necessary.
- Conduct postoperative and long-term follow-up visits.
- Develop expertise in performing joint injections.
- Manage prescription medications, refills, patient questions, and clinical triage.
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic studies, laboratory tests, and imaging.
- Prescribe medications and treatments within established clinical protocols and scope of practice.
- Assist with management of hospital inpatients, including care coordination and facilitating discharge.
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up care to promote continuity throughout the patient's treatment journey.
- Communicate effectively with orthopedic surgeons, nurses, therapists, primary care providers, and other members of the care team.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on clinical outcomes, efficiency, access, and patient experience.
- Support the development and implementation of clinical best practices, care pathways, and specialty protocols.
- Help identify opportunities to improve how care is delivered across the joint replacement journey.
- Participate in team and service-line meetings focused on clinical performance and program development.
- Provide education and mentorship to new team members and clinical learners as appropriate.
- Maintain compliance with applicable professional, regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
- Stay current with evidence-based practices and developments in orthopedic and joint replacement care.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current Iowa licensure, or eligibility for Iowa licensure, as a Physician Associate or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, as applicable.
- Current national certification appropriate to the APP's profession.
- Current DEA registration or eligibility for registration.
- Current BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Orthopedic experience preferred.
- Experience with joint replacement or Adult Reconstruction is highly desirable.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented specialty practice.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Puts patients first and genuinely enjoys helping people.
- Builds trusting, lasting relationships with patients and families.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and critical thinking.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Enjoys working as part of a collaborative orthopedic team.
- Is organized, dependable, and attentive to detail.
- Takes pride in providing high-quality, safe, evidence-based care.
- Demonstrates accountability for patient access, quality, productivity, patient experience, and efficient care delivery.
- Is motivated to continue learning and developing expertise in Adult Reconstruction.
