Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a CA license, trauma and ICP monitoring experience for a 13-week Level II trauma center assignment

Details

• 30-bed ICU/Trauma ICU setting within an acute care hospital
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1-2, with 90% of assignments at 1:2
• Cerner EMR used for charting
• 12-hour day shifts, self-scheduling not finalized until manager review
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call or standby requirements for travelers
• First to float among all traveler staff to PCU, CICU, tele, or medsurg units
• 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor coverage, with charge nurse not taking patient assignments
• 24/7 intensivist coverage and dedicated RT support with Hamilton ventilators
• GE telemetry monitors with unit secretary running strips, RN required to interpret them
• RNs required to titrate vasopressor and sedation drips

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required, pending licenses not accepted
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS preferred, required after 6 months if assignment extends beyond that
• NIHSS certification required
• COVID vaccine certification required
• 2-3 years of ICU specialty experience required
• Trauma experience required
• Experience with ICP monitoring and ventriculostomies required; candidates without this must have post-TPA patient experience
• Previous travel experience preferred
• Must pass onsite proctored Dysrhythmia exam (Pass/Fail) on first day

Additional Information

• Care for trauma, neuro-stroke, head injury, and ventriculostomy/ICP monitoring patients in a fast-paced Level II trauma ICU
• Unit-specific orientation is 1 day, with additional time available if needed
• Navy scrub color required
• Holiday RTO will be considered but cannot be guaranteed
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment (3 shifts for shorter assignments)
• Strong interventional radiology program on site
• Traveler-friendly unit, but candidates should be prepared for a demanding, fast-paced environment and be comfortable asking for help when needed
• Must work well with a collaborative care team including RT, intensivists, and unit techs
