ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Work independently or as part of a team to complete a variety of work order assignments or supervisor‑assigned tasks, maintaining accurate logs and records. Set up and break down office furniture, cubicles, modular furniture, and office equipment. Assist with space planning, drawings, and related tasks as requested. Transport office or classroom furniture and electronic/office equipment such as computers, phones, filing cabinets, wall art, copiers, printers, conference room equipment, white boards, monitors, DVD/VCR players, servers, display boards, film screens, audio‑visual equipment, and kitchen equipment (refrigerators, microwaves, coffee machines, tables, chairs, shelving). Use hand carts, trucks, or other methods to move equipment from one location to another. Order and/or pick up materials and supplies from vendors or university‑maintained warehouse. Operate or drive vehicles such as forklifts, trucks, golf carts, or other equipment as required. Assist in preparing new facilities for office moves, including minor repairs, applying paint/varnish, filling cracks/holes, and replacing light fixture covers. Operate a variety of hand or power tools such as drills, saws, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and power paint sprayers. Additional Responsibilities for Facilities Technician II Read furniture office plans, drawings, and schematics to understand layout. Act as a lead, providing direction to Facilities Technician I to ensure plan execution and coordinating with appropriate staff for issue resolution. Perform necessary arithmetic and mathematical calculations for office/classroom measurements and arrangements to ensure equipment fits as designed into space. Set up modular equipment and office cubicle panels, ensuring electrical connectivity and proper routing of all devices. Meet with university departmental staff to pre‑plan move requirements. QUALIFICATIONS Physical strength and capability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds independently; push/pull equipment on carts, climb stairs, and walk long distances across campus for extended periods. Ability to read drawings, space plans, or blueprints with good spatial recognition. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work cohesively with team partners. Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary. Knowledge of safety and security precautions and occupational hazards with a willingness to follow safety guidelines. Good customer service orientation. Ability to work efficiently and follow instructions or directions from others. Ability to cope effectively with changing priorities and meet deadlines. Reliable and dependable; must pass background checks. For Facilities Technician II only: knowledge of basic mathematical concepts and ability to perform basic calculations, including geometry or algebra (e.g., calculating area and space configuration for multiple work stations). REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High school education or equivalent. Prior experience in roles that include the described responsibilities is preferred. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENT Work is characterized as 50% or more ambulatory with physical exertion involving the moving of campus equipment, furniture, and property of varying sizes and weights. Work requires reading and understanding information on documents or displays, and occasionally involves computer monitoring. Frequent communication with coworkers and supervisory staff via in‑person, phone, two‑way communications, or other available technology. Active listening and decoding of information, instructions, and ambiguous data. Use of repetitive wrist movements and manipulation of light to medium weight materials up to 50 pounds. Work may involve climbing stairs, ladders, step ladders, extension ladders, lifts or aerial booms. Work may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, steering, kneeling, stooping, squatting, and maneuvering in low or narrow spaces. Work frequently occurs indoors and outdoors, in all seasons, including extreme heat. Constant vigilance of safety precautions and prevention of injuries, as well as mental acuity for planning, organizing, and coordinating projects and problem solving.
