Speech Language Pathologist SLP

Definition The Speech Language Pathologist identifies, assesses, and provides therapy services to pupils with speech and language disorders. Duties and Responsibilities Screen, identify, assess, and develop recommendations in the areas of articulation, phonology, oral motor, semantics, syntax, pragmatics, voice fluency, and augmentative/alternative communication for pupils with communicative disorders. Utilize appropriate diagnostic assessment procedures, following professional guidelines, to thoroughly and accurately diagnose communicative disorders using both formal and informal assessment measures. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Develop goals and objectives, provide collaboration, consultation, and direct service to meet individual needs as determined by the IEP team. Collaborate and participate in IEP meetings, Student Study Team (SST) meetings, and conferences as appropriate. Provide an educational environment that establishes, maintains, and reinforces appropriate pupil behavior, attitudes, and social skills. Communicate clearly and effectively with others, both orally and in writing. Research and utilize new information regarding intervention/treatment techniques, methods, assessment materials to enhance pupil educational opportunities and outcomes. Provide and utilize appropriate and effective speech and language assessment procedures and therapy experiences for pupils from a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Monitor and supervise speech and language aides, assistants, student teachers, interns, Clinical Fellows as needed. Promote and maintain pupil records and documentation and confidentiality. Establish and maintain a suitable, inviting, and stimulating learning environment. Supervision Exercised Or Received Under the immediate direction of the site administrator and the Director of Special Education. Qualifications Required Master's Degree in Speech pathology or closely related field. Must hold Standard Credential with specialization in Speech and Hearing Service, Restricted Special Education. Speech Hearing Credential, Clinical Services Rehabilitation Credential, or Speech Language Pathology in LSH. Qualifications Preferred Valid California State license. Essential Job Functions Visual ability to read a variety of materials, corrected or uncorrected. Able to conduct verbal conversation in audible tones and understandable voice and speech patterns. Able to hear with or without hearing aid(s) sufficient to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels). Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, squat, bend, reach and walk. Able to sit, stand, kneel, or squat for extended periods of time. Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders. Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Able to carry up to 50 pounds. Able to push and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Able to demonstrate manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate office and/or classroom equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
