The school focuses on educating students from diverse economic backgrounds and is part of the Cristo Rey Network. General Description Detroit Cristo Rey faculty serve as role models for our students. Full‑time teaching assignments include teaching six classes daily, serving on one duty period, and using one assigned preparation period. Part‑time teaching assignments range from one to four 48‑minute classes. The teacher collaborates with other teachers to ensure alignment, tracks and communicates student performance, and supports initiatives to enhance academic offerings. Teachers report to the Principal and meet regularly with the Academic Dean, Dean of Students, and the Corporate Work Study team. The teacher works closely with the social‑emotional counselor when needed. Key Areas of Responsibility Utilize Cristo Rey Network benchmarks to develop engaging curricular materials for each course (annual plan, lesson plans, course syllabus) Frequently assess student work and provide meaningful feedback Communicate with students and parents on academic progress Submit weekly lesson plans Prepare and lead Parent‑Teacher Conferences (three times a year) Attend all faculty meetings Develop and implement a classroom management strategy to maintain discipline and a positive classroom environment Learn and utilize the online grading system (PowerSchool) Offer an extracurricular activity within the scheduled school day Attend the morning assembly (starting at 7:15) and assist with the “check‑in” of assigned students All teachers and administrators serve as assistant disciplinarians to the Dean of Students and the Principal School Calendar (August‑June) Mid‑August: Teacher Orientation Meetings Mid‑June: School year concludes Required Attendance August New Teacher Orientation Day (9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) – All Faculty Meeting/PD (3 days 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; 3 days 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) Orientation Week (7:30 – 3:30 p.m.) Faculty and Staff Retreat Day (TBD) Remainder of the School Year Meet the Teacher Night All school masses and/or prayer services All parent‑teacher conferences All faculty meetings Fall and spring open houses Moderate one week of detention each semester Baccalaureate Mass/Senior Honors Ceremony (June) Graduation ceremony (June) School Day Schedule 7:30 a.m.: Prayer and announcements 7:40 a.m.: Student workers leave for work, and all others prepare for class 7:45 a.m.: Classes begin 3:30 p.m.: Classes end Hours of in‑school employment for all full‑time teachers are Monday‑Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; exceptions include holidays and special schedule days.
