ORGANIZATION 

KIPP is a nonprofit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools with a 20-year track record of preparing students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and life. KIPP currently serves over 100,000 students in 242 schools across the country, including Indianapolis.  KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth-grade students and has grown to educate more than 1,000 students across three schools. By the 2022-2023 school year, KIPP Indy will educate nearly 1,500 students in the Martindale-Brightwood community on the Northeast side of Indianapolis. Edna Martin Christian Center has served hundreds of students and families across Martindale Brightwood since its founding in 1941. Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Coordination

• Participate in the Martindale-Brightwood Education Zone (MBEZ) partner meetings and the KIPP Indy monthly Community Council meetings
• Help families identify, access, and navigate resources that support their overall well-being, while building their knowledge and ability to use community and school-based support systems independently.
• Assist community partners in resolving service delivery, access, and coordination issues
• Develop, monitor, and maintain a schedule of programs and services in the school
• Identify and cultivate relationships with agencies and organizations that can support academic success, improve conditions for learning, and strengthen students’ and families’ social-emotional well-being.
• Manage all volunteers in the school, develop volunteer opportunities, keep records of volunteer work, and regularly recognize their service to the school
• Serve as a liaison to the community and attend external meetings, as needed
• Collaborate with school social workers to refer families to human service agencies and other resource providers
• Collect program and service delivery information from providers and partners
  
  

Family Engagement

• Collaborate with KIPP Indy to launch and execute an effective family engagement strategy, including a family communication and outreach plan
• Proactively engage families and community members to attend MBEZ and KIPP Indy events
• Collaborate with KIPP Indy leadership to design and develop a family resource center
• Coordinate family workshops and meetings that respond to identified family needs, strengthen families’ understanding of school systems and academic information, and support meaningful family participation.
• Collaborate with KIPP Indy regional and school-based leadership to develop a schedule of family programs, events, and services that directly support student success
• Maintain records of family engagement activities and collaborate with principals and teachers on family engagement activities

School Collaboration

• Collaborate with the KIPP Indy Managing Director of Family & Community Engagement and participate in weekly check-ins and team meetings to maximize results
• Cultivate strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including students, families, and staff
• Collaborate to foster a culture that supports the school’s vision and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff, and families
• Develop and execute family engagement initiatives, communications, and events
• Collaborate with operations, student support, and school leadership on enrollment, attendance, and student-retention efforts, including family outreach, identification of underlying barriers, connection to appropriate resources, documentation, and follow-up.
• Collaborate with the social services team to refer students to additional support services (i.e. health services, counseling services, mentorship programs, etc.), as necessary.
• Monitor family communication and engagement information, including participation, survey completion, communication reach, and family feedback, and provide regular updates and recommendations to school and network leadership.
• Coordinate across teachers, school leaders, operations, student support, and community partners to move family-engagement work forward, clarify responsibilities, follow up on commitments, and ensure families receive timely support.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in education, community engagement or related fields
• Deep belief in being part of and helping lead a multi-cultural, anti-racist organization
• Team player capable of working both collaboratively and independently
• Highly organized, resourceful, and accountable, with strong attention to follow through and detail
• Proactive and creative problem-solver; ability to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions
• Working proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, shared files, calendars, and trackers, with the ability to learn new technology platforms independently.
• Track record of exceptional results
• Oral and written proficiency in Spanish preferred

COMPENSATION

Starting Salary $50,000

Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits.
