Financial Wellness Program Manager

30-40 hours per week (salary range based on 40 hours per week, commensurate with experience and skill set)

The Opportunity

Homestretch is seeking a  Financial Wellness Program Manager to provide individualized financial coaching and support to families working toward financial stability.

This position works alongside clients to navigate credit, debt, savings, banking, budgeting, taxes, benefits, and other financial concerns. The goal is not simply to teach financial skills—it is to partner with each family in developing realistic strategies that reflect their goals, circumstances, strengths, and priorities.

 

The Financial Wellness Program Manager will also coordinate Homestretch's debt repayment and savings programs and collaborate closely with case management, employment, child services, and other program staff. The Financial Wellness Program Manager will have an opportunity to grow the program to include an additional financial/credit counselor.

 

Provide Individualized Financial Coaching

• Develop an individualized financial wellness plan with each family, including budgeting, money management, banking, debt repayment, savings, and other financial goals.
• Meet regularly with clients to review progress, identify changing needs, celebrate successes, and adjust strategies as circumstances change.
• Support clients in building financial knowledge, confidence, and skills at their own pace.
• Help clients understand their financial options without judgment and support them in making informed decisions that align with their goals.
• Communicate relevant client needs and progress with members of the direct services team while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and respect for client privacy.

Support Credit, Debt, and Banking Goals

• Obtain and review credit histories and tenant screening/background information as appropriate to program needs.
• Work collaboratively with clients to identify and prioritize outstanding debts.
• Assist clients with credit bureau disputes and work with creditors when appropriate to explore debt settlement or repayment options.
• Develop strategies to establish or rebuild credit.
• Support clients in opening and maintaining checking and savings accounts and developing sustainable banking practices.
• Track credit scores and debt repayment activity in the Access database.

Coordinate Financial Programs

• Coordinate Homestretch's debt repayment and savings programs.
• Prepare client payments to creditors and communicate payment information to the bookkeeper.
• Maintain accurate subsidiary ledgers for client debt repayment and savings accounts and reconcile balances monthly.
• Prepare and distribute monthly statements related to client deposits, savings, and debt repayment.

Connect Clients to Resources

• Help clients navigate employment benefits, public benefits, health insurance marketplace enrollment, hospital financial assistance, W-4 forms, and other financial resources.
• Research options and resources related to specific client expenses and needs.
• Provide information and referrals that expand clients' access to financial and community resources.

Support Tax Preparation

• Manage Homestretch's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site.
• Track the status of client tax refunds and assist clients in addressing federal and state tax issues.
• Partner with clients to consider their goals and priorities when planning how tax refunds may best support their financial stability.

Facilitate Financial Education

• Plan and facilitate financial education groups and life skills classes for adults.
• Adapt financial education materials for teens and children as requested.
• Create learning environments that are accessible, respectful, practical, and responsive to different levels of financial knowledge and experience.

Additional Responsibilities

• Provide annual input for the departmental budget.
• Maintain the credit card payment application.
• Complete required reports, expense reports, and interoffice forms accurately and on time.
• Participate in special projects and organizational initiatives.
• Follow Homestretch's Guiding Principles in all aspects of the work.
• Perform other duties as needed.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human services, counseling, financial management, accounting, social work, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Certification in credit counseling or equivalent experience and training. CPA a plus.
• Three to five years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong financial and computer skills, including proficiency with Excel.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Financial social work credential required or the ability to obtain the credential after hire.
• Experience working with people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, poverty, or other systemic barriers is strongly valued.
• Experience providing financial coaching, case management, counseling, or other client-centered support is a plus.
• Spanish fluency is desired but not required.
